A few years back, my sister did the ancestry(.)com DNA test. It recently updated and now I have to contend with the fact that I'm Québécois.

Old chinese woman selling loose cigarettes at the bar said my broken mandarin was good, on the up and up (she was being nice, but I appreciated the affirmation)

Actually, Tao is right and this is being misread. He’s talking about keeping human understanding of how the AI got there, so we can detect misalignment (e.g. gaming a weakness to mask a result that isn’t truly a good cure). Verification of the proxy alone doesn’t guarantee the real outcome is safe or aligned. The AI could be gaming the system to satisfy the request, or worse. Without understanding how it arrives at its results, we lose the ability to spot and correct such failures before they scale. This differs from not fully understanding how something like Tylenol works, because the intent and process behind those were human and aligned with our goals.
This is a slide from Terence Tao's 'Math 2.0' public lecture yesterday evening at Caltech. I am highly confident that, if the cure actually worked, almost any Stage 4 cancer patient would tell you that human comprehension of its mechanism is completely irrelevant to them.

Been annoying see biotech freaks try to dunk on this analogy when Tao's right here

Need to watch more body horror; Titane (2021) May (2002) Raw (2016) [maybe a stretch] Excision (2012) [a stretch, but I think would resonate] Crash (1996) And not body horror, but recently watched The Piano Teacher (2001) which kinda fits (more masochisitic, but def strange)
Why don't any "freaky perverted" movies have a woman who is sadistic or into genuinely strange and uncommon kinks

They forgot to add the cheese layer to my alloted $1 quesarito. If I wanted another, it'd be over 6 bucks, so now I'm stuck with my quesa-less rito
