This new Coca Cola commercial featuring Marvel heroes is great. Wild seeing Daredevil and X-Men being used in a Disney sponsored commercial. And Black Captain America!

Bill Gaines and Al Feldstein, two titans in 1950s #horror #comic books that made the audience consider points of view on the other side of the tracks in a way that was so much fun, one couldn’t help stay there. Here they are sitting triumphantly as their comic books became a sensation, not knowing that this particular party would end soon.

Al Williamson told me one day that because he was too tired of constantly dipping the brush into the ink, he used a pen nib and did 90% of the page with the nib. What a cool look breaking up most of the blacks to lines. A true master. This over JRJR.

I decided to select a MAD cover from each year that best represents that year as a whole. I took into consideration the pop culture, current events, and everything else that helped shape each year. All images courtesy of Doug Gilford’s awesome @madcoversite.

PAUL COKER Jr, 1929-2022 MAD contributor, 1960-2018 When I started at MAD, the first 4 artists to illustrate my work were George Woodbridge, Don Martin, Paul Coker Jr, and Jack Davis. It was like writing for Mount Rushmore. Now, with the death of Paul Coker Jr, they’re all gone.
