Super excited to share my project from the 2026 HALO Hackathon, Rating Forecheckers Through Spatial Tree Boosting. This was my first time working with SportLogiq data it was really interesting to see the private data side. #HockeyHALO2026 medium.com/@elawing1018/rati…

I’d love to see the edge data for skating speed in outdoor games

I put together rebounds conceded per 60 against GSAx and goals allowed off rebounds to try to show it. Swayman, Wallstedt, and Ullmark have played very well
Replying to @EDLAnalytics
Nice plots! Kinda interested to how each goalie has fared with rebound control so far

Some plot on rebounds, the Flyers have struggled with rebounds from an offensive perspective so far this season. I haven't looked into how teams are looking defensively

Having WAR per game is awesome, could definitely do some cool stuff with development of young players. I might go back and try to use this, I had been using game score in previous analyses
NEW on HockeyStats Introducing our new small-sample ready Wins Above Replacement model: BOX WAR. A brand new model that uses NHL Edge tracking data and HockeyStats xGoals to rigorously measure player performance - in a season, a playoff series, or even a single game.

What’s the conversation to get the 7th thrown in there? Is it just at the end and Sunny just goes “sure”?

I’d love to see the xG created from drop passes, or I guess that would be more xT
COACHES: I had a Russian coach growing up and I can still remember vividly in my head, every practice, screaming "CUT TO THE MIDDLE!!" Here are two great examples from last night on why. 2 OT winners coming from multiple cross and drops or scissor plays. What does this do? When cutting to the middle and having support behind, it creates a situation defensively where there has to be a decision. Does the defender stay with their guy? Or do they switch? Both plays, you see two defenders going to one guy leaving the other player wide open for the goal. Encourage cutting to the middle in practice. It will go a long way in creating offense!

Dylan Guenther is currently tied for the league lead in shot attempts and is still getting to his usual spot. Also, I just noticed that he shot an insane 16% at 5v5 last year
I think Dylan Guenther can become a 50-goal scorer at some point in his career. Enjoy this animation of his first 40-goal season in 2025-26. Another one of the spot-up shooters with his spot on the left circle and the net-front like most other forwards

Interesting that he talks about not trusting small sample sizes (great to hear he understands that) but then kinda seems to have +/- and xGF% in similar regards. There’s so much variance in +/- vs xGF% based on defense and goalie that I feel like they tie together logically
Jeff Blashill was very candidly sharing some info on internal stats and what does and doesn't have value. Good stuff here...

The sample size for xGF% is so much larger since it tracks each chance vs. the number of goals is so much lower for each player

If a beer leaguer were put on an NHL roster, would they have the most points with Kucherov on their line or another player? I would think Kucherov would be able to create the most goals and 2nd assists for the beer leaguer. Beer leaguer wouldn’t be able to keep up with McDavid
