For all the talented and hardworking @EIAgov staff rationalizing our antiquated system architecture and rebuilding mission-critical products hardcoded in near-dead languages, I have one message: Full Steam Ahead.
Kudos to Team @EIAgov for navigating PHP patch while simultaneously prepping a successful WPSR release (time to first byte: 2-4 milliseconds) + launching new daily spot prices: eia.gov/petroleum/prices/tab…
Today's WPSR @EIAgov includes a new Commercial Crude Oil Stocks table and enhanced data viz. Why? Because our unique survey data should be easily accessible to the American people.
Bravo! I've already been using it.
Incredibly excited that we @Arnold_Ventures, in conjunction with @IFP and @_HannahRitchie are launching a new U.S. Energy Data Platform.
It is and will remain free to the public. And it's a massive leap from anything that exists presently in its space.

This is a great thing.
Breaking my Twitter hiatus this week to, among other things, share this very nifty new data explorer from @Arnold_Ventures & @IFP.
They’ve pulled the very-good-but-hard-to-use @EIAgov data and created a clean, straightforward new website.
Recommend y’all take it for a spin!
Some chatter today about the commercial inventory build in today's WPSR @EIAgov. At 17.423 mb, it is the fourth largest after: 21.563 mb on 2/26/21, 19.248 mb on 4/10/20, and 18.961 on 1/6/23...
Testing out some new graphics...
For the week ending July 17, 2026, commercial #crudeoil inventories (excluding the SPR) increased 2.0 million barrels to 411.7 million barrels, 6% below the previous five-year (2021–2025) average. #TodayInEnergy

Thanks for the reply! I know you've spoken about it as a priority, and I'd love to hear more about how AI is being integrated into your modernization agenda, how it's being used, and how we (the rest of the energy analysis community) might learn from you all!
Let's chat about those PDFs. Do you use the 62-page version or the table-by-table?

JSON is where it's at! (I'm a developer) Any AI tool can help you parse it quickly. I'm surprised they kept HTML over PDF.

🤩 Big thanks to EIA Administrator Tristan Abbey (@EIA_One) for delaying planned changes to the EIA's Weekly Petroleum Status Report—specifically how the data updates are hosted—in order to solicit feedback from the analyst community.
I made a bit of a stink about it last week and I've always appreciated how receptive the @EIAgov is to earnest feedback.
Pausing plans to revise the WPSR publication: nothing changes June 10. It does need to be modernized, but we'll take our time to get it right. You deserve a robust opportunity to provide input on what we've proposed: [email protected]. No black holes: I will read it all.
