my experience with the UFC and MAGA alliance with my non-fighter friends is that while that still think MMA and "fighting" as a sport is still interesting/cool... the UFC, itself, is just a giant turnoff

This is incredible. Seika Izawa announced her pregnancy, vacating her RIZIN super-atomweight title back in April. She gave birth to her daughter in September. Now only three months later, she's fighting on NYE the same night they'll crown a vacant champ.

has anybody found a ref standup from that position ever in a UFC match yet? just MMA in general?
Big John McCarthy shuts down claims that the standup in Moicano x Nolan was justified:
"We talk about standing fights up when they're in neutral positions. That is not a neutral position. That's the greatest position that Moicano could be in.
In the thirty-some years that I've refereed, I've never stood someone up from that position."

Renato Moicano recalls being completely caught off guard by Dan Miragliotta's decision to stand him up:
“I was thinking, 'What the f*** is going on?' I was shocked. I was surprised, but then I thought, ok, focus on the fight. Don't let this distract you.
I think it's fair to say [it affected me]. But I don't have anything to complain about Tom Nolan. He did nothing wrong. He beat me fair and square. It's not his fault the referee made a mistake.
He took advantage of the opportunity. He was the better striker on the night.
Imagine if the referee kept the position. Even though I wasn't hurting him, I was trying to finish him. I was trying to advance.
I would have spent the whole second round on his back, and I would have won the round.
Instead, when he broke up the fight, I got caught, lost the round, and went into the third round hurt and frustrated.
I think it was a bad mistake by the referee, but I cannot take credit away from Tom Nolan. He's good, and that's not his problem.”

We should probably pay refs more and we might get better refs.
Big John McCarthy opens up about how little UFC referees get paid, revealing the most he ever made for officiating an event was $2,000:
“I can't tell you exactly, but Dan probably made $1,600 for that fight.
I'll give you the truth. Every fight I ever did in the UFC, the most I ever made was $2,000.
That was the last show I ever did in New York in 2017... I got $2,000 for that entire night.
Betting has become a huge part of the sport, and when people do things right, they're still being called corrupt when they didn't do anything wrong.
They're being abused. They have death threats. You can only take so much.
Eventually, when you're making that kind of money and dealing with all of this, it absolutely has an effect.
After a while, you start thinking, ‘This isn't worth it.’”

Worth a listen. McCarthy correctly points out that Nolan was the one stalling the action and he was unfairly rewarded for it. There isn't a more dominant position. Moicano cannot "improve" from there. The responsibility is on the opponent.
Great talk with @JohnMcCarthyMMA for “McCarthy Monday” on @WeighingIn discussing “The Stand Up” by Dan Miragliotta in the @moicanoufc fight last weekend.

the Moicano-Nolan stand-up was an IQ test (and a quite revealing one given the takes I’m seeing)
This isn’t a hard situation to parse and you don’t necessarily need to have trained to understand this one, but boy are a ton of people proudly showing their asses with their takes…

This is the world you created, ufc fans..the damage judging criteria, the ufc matchmakers telling fighters not to grapple, the fans booing fights going to the ground, the dwcs fighters not getting selected because they grappled..now the refs disregarding back takes...enjoy it 😒
How did you feel about Dan Miragliotta standing up the fight here?

for real, for the very few people justifying that stand up.... are yall just hoping MMA becomes Karate Combat but in shorts?
