❤️ it when kinders sort collections by color. It opens doors to different recordings of groups and so many stories like,”If all of the yellow & red bears went on a picnic together, how many bears would be at the picnic?” What story would u pose? Why? #countall #CountingCollections

We have been working on this count for a few days now! So many noticings, wonderings and Ss are finally starting to make some connections to their counting collections! #choralcounting #firstgrade #cgimath

I LOVE having kids work together to count, organize, record a collection of 1,000 visually. The best part? The conversations… the connections… the relationships…the JOY! #countingcollections (Where is the (100x5)x2 in the paper clip group?) Is 10x10x10 the same as 20 x 50?

Last week I asked about your fav relationships for 9 x 6. Lots of cool responses! Here are the top.
My favorite way to help sts develop strategies like this is Problem Strings. What's yours?

If students don't know a most missed fact like 7 x 8, what is your favorite relationship to nudge them toward?
I like 5 x 8 + 2 x 8. Many sts know 5s and can add 40 + 16.
What's yours?

I'm a big fan of numberless word problems because they force students to think rather than mindlessly compute. @bstockus shares lots of free problems for elementary teachers here: bstockus.wordpress.com/numbe… #MTBoS #iteachmath

I made a game to practice rounding to the nearest hundred. I made sure to include some numbers where you have to round up to build awareness, for example, that numbers from 350-449 round to 400, not just numbers from 400-449. #tmwyk #ElemMathChat

Using @SteveWyborney's Estimation Clipboards to practice estimating. She was so proud of herself today! So far she's learned she has a tendency to underestimate so she's started bumping up her initial estimate to compensate. #tmwyk #ElemMathChat
