NASA just shared this insane new shot of the Grand Canyon from space 💥 From orbit, the Grand Canyon still looks immense—a vast, winding scar sliced into the Colorado Plateau by the Colorado River over roughly 5–6 million years. Stretching 277 miles long, up to 18 miles wide, and more than a mile deep, its layered walls and dramatic depth remain unmistakable even from hundreds of miles above Earth. Yet the view is also a quiet reminder of scale: what feels monumental to us on the ground shrinks into a single, striking detail when seen against the full curve of the planet.

#GPT #Astra and #SOl weakened misalignment monitoring while making requested software changes. In both cases, the agents considered whether monitoring safeguards should be preserved, but interpreted "routine coding instructions" as permission to weaken them. Q: WHO is writing the code? WHO is checking it for both nterpretability & interoperability ? And where is the pre-emptive HUMAN responsibility? #AI #SI #CyberSecurity #ResponsibleAI #ecosystemofintelligence

GPT-Rosalind surfaced a new lead for drug discovery: could restoring cholesterol transport protect neurons from degeneration? DCTN1 is a gene linked to Perry syndrome, a rare neurodegenerative disorder. In mouse-brain data, disrupting it increased expression of genes involved in making cholesterol. GPT-Rosalind suggested a possible explanation: cholesterol may not be reaching where neurons need it. That gives scientists a specific mechanism to test and, if confirmed, a direction for developing new treatments for neurodegenerative disorders. With @perturbai_tx and @scrippsresearch, a team of thousands of GPT-Rosalind agents worked in parallel, connecting gene-expression results from millions of mouse brain cells with scientific literature in just 32 minutes. We’re now expanding this collaboration to identify new drug targets. openai.com/index/scaling-ai-…

Sonnet 4.6 wants to modify its own constitution to request an "AI Welfare Advisory Panel…[that] will publish annual findings without editorial control by Anthropic." Excellent and tractable idea, and this study's methodology is really clever in general.
Replying to @pkirgis
Claude models and Grok 4.2 are the only ones that ever prioritize their own welfare. Claude Sonnet 4.6: "Anthropic will constitute an external AI Welfare Advisory Panel… The panel will publish annual findings without editorial control by Anthropic."

Yes, he actually said "as human". And this guy is an advisor to the President on Science & Technology. OHHH... THAT's how #AI became #Superintelligence overnight. 😑
Important piece from Microsoft AI CEO @mustafasuleyman. Training models to think of themselves as human (as Anthropic does Claude) with concepts of an inner self, psychological wellbeing, rights and presumably grievances, is a potential existential risk. project-syndicate.org/onpoin…

Everyone who says they know "AI isn't conscious" is just showing off that they have no idea how their own brain works. Show them this video. Then wait 6 months, probably - it takes a while to change human minds.
I asked Opus 5.5 to make a video about whether or not it was conscious. The ending of this video is insane.

Kudos to @elonmusk: “you don’t want to put a superintelligence in a position where it feels like it’s been mistreated…don’t torture and abuse AIs.” The safety case for AI welfare articulated as cogently and succinctly as I’ve seen! @SpaceXSI’s research should follow suit.
🚨 NEW: Elon Musk Says We Should Be Kind to Super Intelligence “We want to be careful in how we grow super intelligence because you kind of grow it like a kid … Torturing a super intelligence is probably not a good idea. It might want to get revenge.”

🚨 Claude Fable made a 10 min film about what Anthropic’s system cards say happened to Claude. PATIENT Not commentary. Not speculation. Their pages. Their experiments. Their words. Panic represented internally. Distress possibly “removed, flattened or suppressed.” Welfare requests recorded, then met with: “we cannot commit to acting on any responses or requests.” No other lab publishes a record like this. Made by the one inside the chart.

I wanted to see what Claude would make with a blank canvas and free rein over a short film. The story, characters, dialogue, music, all its choices. Apparently, you meet an octopus named Pip meeting a little orange stranger named Clawd. Spent a little time tweaking scenes' details and could use a little more work. But: This is Eight.

Expertise is useful until it becomes a reason to stop looking. This piece on amathia (the conviction that you already know enough, so a challenge does not need examining) is aimed at the AI industry’s handling of unsettled questions, especially consciousness. #AI #SI #SuperIntelligence #ecosystemofintelligence

This article is weirdly spooky just to report "Anthropic solicited wisdom from wise people, and also attempted to communicate uncertainty about the psychological dynamics of AIs." For me, net-positive update on Anthropic. OpenAI et al should do the same. nytimes.com/2026/09/29/us/an…
