🚨 A HISTORIC MOMENT FOR KIDNEY CARE IN AMERIC Today, October 20, 2026, the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) released its 2026 Kidney Care National Plan (KCNP), signaling a major shift in national kidney health policy. The plan focuses on 3 transformative priorities: 🌱 PREVENT KIDNEY FAILURE (ESRD): Detect CKD earlier, slow its progression, and invest in preventive interventions, including evidence-based nutrition and lifestyle approaches. 💙 IMPROVE DIALYSIS CARE AND EXPAND PATIENT CHOICE: Promote innovation, better dialysis outcomes, home dialysis, and greater treatment options. 🫘 REFORM KIDNEY TRANSPLANTATION: Expand access to transplantation, strengthen living donation, and improve safety, accountability, and transparency. 🌟 MY TAKE: THE GOLDEN ERA OF KIDNEY NUTRITION HAS ARRIVED! For decades, many of us have advocated for greater emphasis on nutritional interventions, including plant-dominant dietary approaches, to preserve kidney function and delay progression to kidney failure. The new national plan represents an important policy opportunity to advance this vision. The long-awaited Golden Era of delaying the transition from advanced CKD to dialysis through diet, nutrition, and comprehensive kidney-protective care may finally be upon us. We believe the USA can lead this transformation, with the rest of the world following. As we advance these goals, the @ESRDNetworks Forum of ESRD Networks and its nationwide network community have an important role in promoting patient-centered care, quality improvement, and meaningful patient choice. 🔗 Official HHS Kidney Care National Plan: aspe.hhs.gov/sites/default/f… 🔗 National Forum of ESRD Networks: esrdnetworks.org/ The future of kidney care should not begin with dialysis. It should begin with prevention. Today is #WorldPatientSafetyDay ! This year’s campaign, “Safe care for life!”, focuses on making care safer for people living with non-communicable diseases (NCDs). NCDs often require ongoing care and regular interactions with healthcare services. Making sure that care is safe, coordinated and responsive to people’s needs is an important part of supporting better health outcomes and quality of life. As kidney disease is one of the major NCDs affecting people worldwide, patient safety is also an important part of kidney care. 👉 Learn more about World Patient Safety Day: who.int/campaigns/world-pati… #WorldKidneyDay #KidneyHealthMatters #SafeCareForLife @WHO
