The road along the west side of Santee Lakes Recreation Preserve has a fresh new look. That’s because paving and striping work was recently completed from Lake 1 to Lake 4.
These pipelines will transport wastewater to the new Water Recycling Facility and convey residuals to the City of San Diego’s Metro Sewer System for treatment and disposal.💧#EastCountyAWP
The improvements follow the installation of wastewater and residuals pipelines beneath the roadway as part of the East County AWP Program.
Notice something different? 👀 New equipment was recently installed on the roofs of the East County AWP Program’s two combined heat and power (cogeneration) units. The cogenerators will use biogas produced during wastewater treatment to generate both heat and electricity.
The electricity will help power the East County AWP facilities, making use of energy that would otherwise go untapped. ⚡️#EastCountyAWP
COMING SOON: Construction activity will increase at this location along the Father Junipero Serra Trail near the vehicle gate by the Visitor Center beginning on October 19. 🚧 Crews will install a vault and connect pipes, which may require detours for park visitors. 🦺
This work is expected to last for several weeks. 💧#EastCountyAWP
What happens before reverse osmosis?
At the East County AWP Program, prescreening and microfiltration (MF) remove particles.
Cartridge filters (pictured) then provide additional filtration before reverse osmosis.💧#EastCountyAWP
The East County AWP Program includes more than 30 miles of wastewater and purified water pipelines, along with multiple facilities that will work together to create a new, local source of water for the region.🚰 #EastCountyAWP
