Not only is it not bad to compare oppressions, comparing oppressions, recognizing their resonances is exactly what transforms movements from chauvinist and particularist to genuinely emancipatory. This is true even if those oppressions differ in intensity or other ways.

It has always been the reactionary chauvinists who reject comparison, who refuse to see themselves in others.

This was true in the 60s and 70s, when the institutionalizing black liberals told the black masses that they have nothing in common with the Vietnamese, and this is true now when grassroots black chauvinists say there is no commonality with queer people or Palestinians.

queers on twt do this thing where they only engage with white trans women and call their transfeminist opinions stupid because theyre white, and when black and brown trans women express similar sentiments they just ignore them or pretend theyre white, which is absurly racist imo.

The goal is to minimize homophobia. It's a line that black bigots and reactionaries have used for literal years now, at least since the arguments around gay marriage, and always the earnest students of their conservative allies, some black "radicals" are doing the same.
Like this is such a SILLY conversation to have. β€œYou can’t hide being black” β€œyou can hide being queer” I’m sorry but who exactly is being helped here? What is the goal of this conversation if not to powerscale oppression?

Couldn't dream of a better discourse to illustrate the fact that people love to power scale oppression because they think it gives them credibility.

Virtually 100% of cases of people saying "don't compare x oppression to y oppression" statements are made with the intention of explaining why one x oppression is not a big deal. It is just another thought terminating cliche.

"don't compare homophobia to racism!" "Don't compare transphobia to homophobia" These are never statements made with an actual analytical objective in mind. They are almost exclusively used to shut down clear analogies that demonstrate the speaker's own self serving views.

It’s ironic that every time this discourse flares up the β€œyou just don’t understand what it’s like to be Black, so your comparisons between racism and homophobia are invalid” crowd inevitably reveals a shocking (and obviously bigoted) ignorance about what it’s like to be queer.
yes you can. you were not born with a binder carabiner and cuffed jeans you can take that shit off. you cannot be phenotypically queer. theres no amount of dressing or undressing that would change how black i look i dont understand what you dont understand.

Whatever segments of DSA are aligned with the β€œwe must lie to the masses and ourselves to win” approach are the ones for which I don’t have any respect, and I’m afraid that it seems there are a lot of those people?
Imagine having a DSA endorsed candidate leading in the polls & unironically thinking now would be a good time to un-endorse cuz she’s trying to Trojan horse socialism to liberals in a literal CNN interview and it didn’t satisfy your LARP signifiers and say the magic words for you

In 3 years there will be DSA people explaining to us why the future of socialism depends on endorsing pro-life candidates in purple states.

This kind of pitiful political thinking is in every way identical to Qanon stupidity.

Attempts to "trojan horse" socialism by obscuring its opposition to capitalism, seeking office to tinker as technocrats rather than struggle alongside and among the working class, is the politics of fear born from the Red Scare that the communist left has rightfully abandoned.
