Surprise last minute switch of recipients. I’m getting a heart transplant in 40 minutes. 4-6 hour procedure that I have a pretty good chance of living through.

You know you're old when the answer to this question is obvious and conjures up images of actually floppy 5-1/4" disks.
Can I ask a DUMB tech question? Why is the Windows main drive called C:? What happened to A: and B:?

From @JimPethokoukis on the gaps in Star Trek and other SiFi. How do we get there? Perhaps this is why I like Larry Niven’s Known Space. Spaceship’s propulsion is nuclear, then ramjets(Bussard?) then fusion, then hyperdrives fasterplease.substack.com/p/…

Muscle mass alone isn't enough. We need muscle that respires well and stays metabolically flexible. A new Lancet Healthy Longevity paper argues sarcopenia is a whole-body energy problem, and that fixing mass without fixing those systems won't eliminate the risk.

The Gran Hotel Ciudad de México in Mexico City is a perfect example of Art Nouveau. The absolutely stunning and colourful establishment was designed by French master artist Jacques Grüber in 1908.

You do not need to listen to the ATC recording of a terrified flight crews' final moments. You do not need to watch someone commit suicide by cop. You do not need to watch a conscript in eastern Europe get blown to bits by a grenade. You need to log off and hug your kids.

Good opportunity to revisit the Everyday Abundance episode on driving your car, which explains the origins of the Lincoln Highway and the stroke of p.r. luck illustrated below. abundance.institute/our-work…
OTD in 1913, the old Lincoln Highway, the first automobile highway across the United States, was dedicated. Road trip! (@iowahawkblog will no doubt have something to say about this, but I happen to know he was up late last night.)

Economist (and Nobel laureate) Paul Krugman: “Control of Starlink must, one way or another, be taken away from Elon Musk. It’s a matter of national security: we cannot let private individuals make foreign and defense policy, and it would be totally irresponsible to leave a crucial military asset in the hands of a racist, authoritarian conspiracy theorist.” paulkrugman.substack.com/p/i…

Most of the link between ultra-processed food and diabetes comes down to one thing: sweet drinks. UK Biobank, 188K people followed for 14 years. Researchers split "ultra-processed" into its parts: processed meat, sweet snacks, salty snacks, sweet drinks, ready meals and fried food. After adjusting for BMI and nutrients, sweet drinks carried most of the risk, 12% higher per standard deviation of intake. Salty snacks added a little. The rest, not much. Don't drink sugar.. doi.org/10.1186/s12916-026-0…

You know where the veil between Heaven and Earth is thinnest? Every day, in every time zone, at every Mass, throughout the world, at the moment of Consecration. Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.
The veil between the living and the spirit worlds is at it's thinnest today. Blessings from Glastonbury on Samhain. #samhain #Halloween2026 #halloween
