I just received the news of the passing of a close friend and top notch photographer in the world of Motorsports, Ron McQueeney.
Ron was the Director of Photography at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for many years and after leaving that position became the president of the Indianapolis 500 Oldtimers Club.
He and his team of photographers covered the yearly 500 from top to bottom delivering images for multiple uses. When the other events were added, they were covering those.
In addition, Ron and his team traveled to all of the events in the Indy Car series.
During his time, he witnessed a lot of changes and transitions to the sport. One year, when he and his team were out west to cover a race, we all hooked up and gave them a extensive tour around Hollywood, Beverly Hills, while hitting places like Dean Jeffries shop and more!
Ron was always a good friend to me and so many others. Ron never had a Social Media account and he didn’t do YouTube videos. He was a total professional from a different era. His work will live on.
This photograph was taken in 2016 at the Indianapolis 500 Oldtimers Club BBQ. It was on the occasion of his presenting me an award of recognition for my support of the Oldtimers & Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Since this was given on the 100th running of the 500, it’s something that I’ll hold dear forever. To have this photograph with Ron makes it extra special. God Bless Ron, you were a good friend and a great photographer.

I’ll never forget when I interviewed Gil at his first appearance at the Long Beach Grand Prix. I walked away thinking to myself. What a nice guy he is. He stayed that way all through his life.

Proud to say the Justice family was there and a sponsor of this gentleman and his drivers. His crew chief, Red Vogt was a close personal friend of my uncle Zeke. So much so, my uncle Zeke dated Reds sister. Raymond was very important to the founding of NASCAR.🏁
