So proud of DOJ and this important work.
🚨REPORT🚨 The DOJ has released the Weaponization Working Group report on 2023 FBI Richmond Field Office memo that targeted Catholics. The FBI Field Office in Richmond declared "radical traditionalist" Catholics as a national security threat. On January 23, 2023, the field office released a memo that @KyleSeraphin exposed. The FBI memo said something like this: White nationalist-type extremists seem more interested in a hardline, old-school Catholic scene. That could help the FBI catch threats — if agents get churches to watch their own people and tip off the bureau. The memo then listed specific chapels and a seminary near Richmond, with addresses and phone numbers. It recommended going to their leaders and asking them to watch their congregations for “warning signs of radicalization” and act as informants. It also suggested doing the same with the Catholic Diocese of Richmond. All of this started with one man — later identified as Xavier Louis Lopez. He allegedly posted racist, violent stuff, made Molotov cocktails and a 3-D-printed gun, and went to prison. He had gone to one SSPX chapel for about seven months and sat in on a few classes. He was not a member. The priest told the FBI the guy had “crazy views about race” and was a white supremacist. After that interview, the FBI started looking at the priest himself, and at another priest (his uncle) tied to a more extreme offshoot. They ran travel checks, did surveillance, and treated the chapel like a possible threat spot. Those reviews later closed. No threat was found. The day after the memo leaked, FBI bosses ordered it pulled from the system. A month later, one of the people who wrote it was still working on it anyway. On March 17, 2023, that analyst emailed that they had spent the day “tinkering” with it and listed more changes they wanted to make. I have reached out to the DOJ and FBI for comment. I am request details regarding the employees that continued to target Catholics--even after the FBI told them to erase the memo. I also asked both agencies why these individuals have their names redacted and if there have been any arrests.
