Approaches like this were originally designed for project-based sourcing of goods and services. Category management has grown to include much more: spend management and analysis, market intelligence, leadership, performance development, corporate reporting, sustainability, and risk mitigation. Category management allows procurement to focus efforts and evaluate different market segments to leverage their agreements.

South Africa’s history is a jagged scar - apartheid left a legacy of exclusion so profound that even the most ardent free-market evangelist would concede some form of redress was inevitable. Enter BEE, stage left, in the early 2000s, with a noble promise: level the playing field, open doors, and build an economy that looks more like the rainbow nation we’re so fond of touting. Procurement policies - those rules nudging (or strong-arming) companies to buy from black-owned businesses - were the engine room of this grand experiment.”

@alechogg @TauParks @the_dtic Can anyone tell me why the BEE Codes don't keep up with inflation? A QSE revenue threshold of R50m revenue today is the equivalent of a circa R30m company when these codes were Instituted. The thresholds are meant to cater for the challenges BEE impose on smaller businesses. This assistance is being eroded by inflation and I don't think this was the intention?
