🙏 This was my first thought. Luckily I don’t travel down Oxford Street very often anymore but plenty of other people with disabilities do. The cyclists on the pavement this morning also looked like a huge hazard to the visually and mobility impaired.

Only a problem now that bus that every 10 min will hardly move in that time due the gridlock this will cause

As a big champion and ❤️ of London Buses this is a sad moment. It wasn’t the last bus btw on Oxford St (West) @bbclondon I believe it was a 390 heading towards Victoria LT760 😊
An 'emotional' farewell to Oxford Street's buses. Passengers on board the last bus to travel down the famous shopping street have been sharing their thoughts on the historic journey. Almost a kilometre of Oxford Street is now traffic-free, with buses diverted onto surrounding roads. What do you make of the changes? You are right. Husband and I are 87 years old and good walkers. But when shopping in Oxford Street could take the bus along from John Lewis to Selfridges.

Totally agree. I think it’s good that buses stop at the back of John Lewis, Selfridges etc. But I have to check if there’s even an entrance (I don’t know) and the distance from the bus stop. It’s also a bit puzzling that Regent Street is losing all their buses except one every 10 minutes. I have to see it in real life.

No excuse everyone should be entitled to use a bus in London especially on Oxford St. No one should be palmed off to use the tube. Sadly on the western end of Oxford St that’s the only option.

Let’s face it sometimes the tube can be chaotic at times heading to Central London. Travelling by bus makes life easier. Jumping off a 98 or 139 at John Lewis Oxford St was great. Now the option will be Wigmore St then cutting through the back streets. It’s going to be weird.
My concern about Oxford St pedestrianisation which no one has picked up on - cuts to bus services & lack of choice for passengers with disabilities. 94 no longer serves Piccadilly to Marble Arch was always busy. Only option now 139 via Wigmour St to Portman Sq at 10min frequency

I agree with you ed, it's just a money making scheme by the mayor,he hasn't got a clue about how it's going to effect people, how can elderly people walk the whole length of Oxford street?

The BBC has agreed to pay £400,000 to an award-winning Jewish documentary-maker who alleged she was subjected to antisemitism and pushed out of the corporation after October 7. Lucie Kon, 57, spent 22 years at the BBC and worked on programmes including Panorama, Today, BBC Breakfast and Storyville. Films she commissioned or helped produce won an Oscar, Emmy and Bafta. Kon says her treatment changed dramatically after the Hamas attacks. She alleges colleagues described Zionists like her as “evil”, argued that Israel should be called terrorist if Hamas was, and told her to consider what had driven Hamas to carry out the massacre. When she proposed a documentary about October 7, Kon says she was told she was “too partial” to oversee it because she was Jewish. She subsequently filed a formal grievance, but a BBC investigation rejected her complaint. Kon says she was then kept away from work for months. During a restructuring, her position was made redundant and she failed to secure the similar role replacing it. She launched unfair-dismissal proceedings. The BBC has now agreed substantial compensation, reported as £400,000, without admitting liability or accepting that Kon suffered antisemitism. Kon says Jewish employees still at the corporation continue to face hostility and feel unable to identify openly as Jewish or Zionist.

No. It will be an inaccessible for many. The latest surprise is that the 94 bus curtails at Marble Arch

My Mum has limited mobility and is gutted. No chance of getting along Oxford Street for her now. We particularly used to enjoy doing the Christmas lights etc.

So long Oxford Street West. Will miss the 7, 94, 139 and 390 plus the night bus routes going past stopping outside John Lewis and Selfridges. Oxford St West won’t be the same :(
🚨 As of 15 minutes ago, no more vehicles are on Oxford Street and it’s officially pedestrianised.

Oxford Street bus changes are now in effect following the start of pedestrianisation works on 24 October 2026. Five routes terminate at Marble Arch, while several others have diversions, revised stops or additional stops along Oxford Street and Regent Street. Read more ⤵️

In an hour's time, thousands of stock photos of buses and taxis driving down Oxford Street will be rendered worthless. At least a fiver's worth of photo licening rights per year will be wiped out by the Mayor's actions.

Fancy picking the last track on my show next week for Last Orders? It’s got to be a track that takes you back to a special moment from a big night out, gig, club, festival, wedding etc. What’s the tune?

Sadly I won’t get the chance the hop on a bus today and travel along the whole length of Oxford St. Let’s hope the pedestrianisation will work and improve reliability on buses. One thing the N113 must be reinstated to Trafalgar Sq instead of Marble Arch. Mad idea to curtail it.

Sobering thought to see a livery we designed preserved!
Had a ride around Weybridge last Sunday afternoon on preserved London & Country Volvo B10M-50 Citybus / East Lancs, G610 BPH during the @londonbusmuseum TransportFest at @BrooklandsMuseu in Weybridge.
