Gross as shi
Much of the L-cysteine in bread dough has been made from feathers and hair. FDA allows it as a dough strengthener in yeast-raised baked goods, at up to 0.009 parts per 100 parts flour. Gluten is held together partly by disulfide bonds. L-cysteine breaks some of them, so the dough mixes faster, stretches further and handles better on the machines. Wacker, one of the companies that makes it, lists buns, toast, tortillas and pizza dough among the uses. The traditional way to make it is to break down keratin from duck and chicken feathers, hog bristles and human hair in acid and pull the cysteine out. A 2017 trade report put more than 50% of world production on that route, and a 2024 review still called it the most common method. Fermentation from plant sugar is the alternative, and Wacker sells a version it says uses no animal materials. The label doesn't have to say which one it is. Hot Pockets lists L-cysteine hydrochloride in the dough conditioner for its crust.

Well, we've had the 'Chicken Tax' since LBJ's days and look what that got us - $90,000 pickup trucks.

Good one!
Daily routine... AI-generated videos featuring the US president have become incredibly popular lately. People love them.

Now I see why she was acting this way - in her mind, she's a celeb.
In 2024, Temulun Togochog told Congress she'd never met her family because of CCP repression. Today, she was arrested for threatening to kill a Jewish woman and attacking her in public, on camera.

Agree!! Just like state (or really, any government) employee unions - you shouldn't be allowed to vote for people who control your pay and benefits!!
Only taxpayers should be allowed to vote. Anyone on welfare benefits should forfeit their right to vote until they are off of government assistance.

Interesting and frightening.
Yesterday, an anonymous black hat group reached out with an insane RL request. They offered an astronomical amount of money to post-train open-weight models on exploit data. The amount of attack data they claim to hold is unlike anything I have ever seen. If someone told me this was an undercover FBI dataset, I would have believed it. For context, a white-hat project I worked on using GLM-5.3 used less than one percent of that volume, and it already outperformed frontier models by a huge margin. Of course, I turned it down. But what genuinely scares me is knowing someone else will eventually take the deal.
