On the 12th anniversary of Arîn Mirkan’s martyrdom, we remember her struggle, which extended from the mountains of Kurdistan to Rojava, and ultimately to the Mishtenûr front in Kobanî, where she fell a martyr on October 5, 2014, while resisting ISIS, leaving her name forever etched in the history of Kobanî’s resistance and the struggle of Kurdish women.
From the mountains of Kurdistan, Arîn Mirkan began her path in the armed struggle when she joined the Kurdistan Freedom Movement in 2007, carrying with her the will of a woman who chose to make her life a path of defending her people and their freedom.
With the outbreak of the Rojava Revolution, she returned to her homeland and joined the ranks of the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ), continuing her struggle in Rojava and taking part in defending her people and their land.
When ISIS began its attack on Kobanî in September 2014, Arîn was among the city’s foremost defenders. She moved to the front lines and took part in the resistance of Kobanî, particularly in the Mishtenûr area, where fierce battles took place against ISIS.
On October 5, 2014, during the battles on the Mishtenûr front, Arîn Mirkan carried out a fedai operation against ISIS positions and was martyred in the operation. She was martyred while resisting for Kobanî.
From the mountains of Kurdistan to Rojava, and from Rojava to the resistance of Kobanî, the name of Arîn Mirkan has remained associated with the history of the city’s resistance and with the YPJ women who took part in its defense.

Moving him from prison and isolation to a house and a library on the same island, while keeping him under house arrest, does not mean much. We consider this nothing more than a sedative for the Kurds. Once they achieve their goals and consolidate their position, they may turn against everything they have promised.
Our trust in the Turkish government is nonexistent. This is because we have been through many bitter experiences with them. They have repeatedly gone back on their promises, reneged on agreements, returned to their brutal methods, and launched savage attacks.

His mafia-style methods of managing the Syrian file and manipulating the fate of the country’s diverse communities will not remain hidden behind closed doors forever.
The day will come when the truth about his behind-the-scenes dealings, the nature of his backroom deals, and his role in fueling conflicts and unleashing bloodshed in Syria is exposed.
The further Syrians distance themselves from this man’s influence and mafia-style methods, the closer they come to a safer and more stable future.

The deployment of Jordanian military reinforcements along its border with Syria completely undermines the statements made by the criminal Tom Barrack, who claimed that Syria had become safe and that there was no terrorism in the country.
He can no longer continue spreading misinformation and protecting jihadists and terrorism in Syria. The truth is becoming clearer day by day.
Thousands of ISIS prisoners in Raqqa, Deir ez-Zor, and al-Shaddadi have been released. In addition, the gates of large camps that housed the families of ISIS members and their children, some of whom were between 15 and 19 years old, have been opened.
This particularly includes Uyghur, Tajik, Chechen, and Turkmen jihadists who were led by Abu Mohammad al-Jolani (Ahmed al-Sharaa).
We must also not forget the ISIS members who fled Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor following the arrival of Kurdish forces and the liberation of those areas, and subsequently sought refuge in areas under Turkish control, such as Tal Abyad, Serekaniye, Jarabulus, and Afrin. International Day of Political Prisoners:
Concern for at Least 14 Kurdish Prisoners Facing Death Sentences in Iran
As October 30, the International Day of Political Prisoners, is marked worldwide, a review of published human rights reports identifies at least 14 Kurdish political prisoners and protesters facing death sentences in Iran.
This list brings together reported cases and includes both initial court rulings and sentences upheld on appeal.
Pakhshan Azizi, Hatem Ozdemir, Yousef Ahmadi, Pezhman Touberehrizi, Arman Marefati, Mohammad Faraji, Raouf Sheikh-Maroufi and Mohsen Eslamkhah are eight of these prisoners. Earlier human rights reports warned that they could face execution.
The reports described unfair and secretive proceedings, torture, pressure to obtain forced confessions, and violations of their right to defend themselves. Hatem Ozdemir is a Kurdish citizen of Turkey imprisoned in Iran.
Khosrow Mohammadnia, Masoud Toushmalani, Sirwan Shabani, Borzou Rezaei and Omran Amani are five others on the list. They were sentenced to death in connection with the January 2026 protests. The sentences against the first three were reported on October 1, and Rezaei’s on October 6. On October 29, it was reported that 21-year-old Omran Amani had been formally informed of his death sentence at Great Tehran Penitentiary.
Verisheh Moradi, a Kurdish political activist and member of the East Kurdistan Free Women’s Society, is also among the 14. On October 14, Branch 15 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court sentenced her to death for a second time.
The Supreme Court had overturned her earlier sentence because of an incomplete investigation and problems with the trial process. Her lawyers say the court repeated the death sentence without addressing those problems.
The cases are at different stages of the legal process. The Supreme Court has previously upheld the death sentences against Pakhshan Azizi, Hatem Ozdemir and Yousef Ahmadi. One of Ahmadi’s two death sentences was changed to financial compensation and imprisonment. However, his other death sentence, on a charge of “armed rebellion,” remains in place.
This year’s International Day of Political Prisoners places a strong emphasis on keeping prisoners’ names in public view and supporting their families.
In a joint statement, the October 30 Coalition called for sustained international attention and the immediate, unconditional release of people imprisoned for exercising their basic rights. It also stressed the need to hold those responsible for abuses accountable.

متى أصبح الشخص مناضلاً وبطلاً لمجرّد أنه يتحدّث من خلف الشاشات، ويعيش في النعيم، بينما الشعب الذي ينتمي إليه يقاوم ويناضل ويقدّم التضحيات؟!
