Tackling extreme nodular calcium requires both high modification power and durable deliverability. Dr. Charlotte Trouillet demonstrated a systematic approach to treating a massive, subocclusive, para-ostial calcified nodule along with a distal calcified neo-lesion. When evaluating calcium modification strategies — from generator-dependent IVL to rotational and orbital atherectomy — device selection is critical. Dr. Vincent O.H. Kwok evaluated treatment options across complex cases, selecting LithiX™ HC-IVL to tackle severe calcium and overcome deliverability challenges. His first case targeted long, heterogeneous calcium with sharp eruptive nodules and mixed morphologies, achieving optimal bioadaptor and stent expansion. In a second ultra-calcified, uncrossable lesion, a combined Rota-LithiX approach successfully treated dense and deep calcium, using a single LithiX catheter across multiple lesions. Dr. Kwok’s take-home message included that LithiX delivered an excellent, user-friendly, non-generator option with good crossing and re-crossing profiles compared to cutting balloons and generator-dependent IVL systems. Addressing unmet clinical needs in complex calcium modification requires exceptional deliverability. Elixir Medical hosted another successful annual backpack drive! Each year, we partner with local organizations to raise money for students to receive new school supplies before the year starts.
