EXCLUSIVE: Outlander star Sam Heughan reveals why he is 'against AI' and data centres "I was told recently that Dumfries and Galloway, which is my home region, is going to have the biggest data centre. And I asked local politicians again, is this really what we want to be known for? And they told me, no, it's fine. And that the locals are happy. And I thought, well, the locals probably don't know about it, and the ones that do are probably not happy. "There have been over 15 community groups that have come together. The campaigners in the Lammermuirs are so eloquent - and they've never done this before. They've never stood up and protested or had a voice. And I think it's unfair to put the pressure on local communities to do to do this. “I think the people of Scotland don't want these data centres. The landowners do and the developers do, but the local communities, when they find out, and a lot of them don't find out till very late. I didn't find out about mine here at Bishopbriggs till quite late. And actually, there has been very little press about it here. "It feels underhand, and it feels like the local communities don't want them.” 👇

'With all that we have to offer the world, why are we investing in data centres?' Recent months have seen Outlander star Sam Heughan emerge as one of the key voices in the anti data centre movement, backing calls for a moratorium on new hyperscale data centre applications and getting behind the campaign against the Say No To Larbert Data Centre campaign. He told The Herald: “As a Scotsman, and someone very proud of what we've got here, and the tourism I've seen that we've built around Outlander. I just think that we need to protect the reason that people are coming here. "They're coming here to see this amazing countryside and this land that we've got with a great history. And we have so much to offer. I just don't know why, we're putting our time energy into something that's poisonous. “On my hikes across Scotland I’ve seen remote wild spaces. I've been the only person I've seen for a number of days. And I've seen so much wildlife. It's incredible what we have here in Scotland And I honestly would question the Scottish Government say, why are we investing in that? With all that we have to offer the world, why are we investing in data centres?” 👇 𝘐𝘔𝘈𝘎𝘌: 𝘋𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘥 𝘗𝘢𝘳𝘳𝘺 𝘔𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘢 𝘈𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘨𝘯𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴/𝘗𝘈 𝘞𝘪𝘳𝘦/𝘗𝘈 𝘐𝘮𝘢𝘨𝘦𝘴
