ALT I STILL actually enjoy these series, stories, AND characters. Be they aliens crashing down on a poor, young boy, (killing him), then turning him into a girl, because they couldn’t reconstruct their body; only for the young boy, to adapt, change, AND EVEN IDENTIFY themselves as a girl as the story progresses. (And as for the blonde girl? She refused to call him - by She/Her pronouns, not because she was a bigot, but because she had trouble with the thought of having lost something close to them. Only for them to realize that the person they adored STILL remained. Just in a different form. Their truest sense of self.)

ALT One of the boldest stories from this classic was when Ranma (a Boy) got smacked with a boulder that rested in a pond in the Tendo household. He lost all sense of their male self, and started identifying as a woman. Ranma (female self) was expressing themselves on a whole new manner, that even Akane felt there was something more to Ranma than just what he willingly showed. (Alas, it’s the 1980’s, so the writing was barely touching a surface when it comes to story and identity.)

ALT And who can forget “Birdy the Mighty?” (No? Just me? Oh well. I guess young guys getting killed by aliens, and then merging with said Alien beauties is just another way for people to explore themes such as identity and their truest sense of self. (And not some autogynophilliac “Fantasy” like these fucking assholes love to shove so damn hard…)
