🚨 WordPress remote code execution flaw targeted hours after security update
Attackers began probing for a WordPress Core vulnerability shortly after version 7.1.4 was released on October 28.
The race condition temporarily exposes a predictable installation path while WordPress processes a full core update. An unauthenticated attacker who reaches the installer during this brief window could potentially execute code on the server.

• Affected: WordPress 4.7 through 7.1.3
• Fixed: WordPress 7.1.4 and security releases for older branches

Wordfence reportedly recorded more than 18,500 requests targeting temporary installer paths during its first 21 hours of monitoring, with the first request detected nine minutes after it deployed a firewall rule.
The activity indicates active exploitation attempts, but does not establish that any websites were successfully compromised.
Administrators should update immediately and investigate suspicious PHP requests under wp-content/upgrade.
