Being late October, I assumed this was PR for yet another horror movie. What terror will suddenly burst from the egg and latch onto his face?! 🤣

This game by a fellow solo game dev has a lot of style.
I humbly announce my new solo-developed game: The King's Surveyor! A first-person exploration adventure in the King's Field tradition. You are a surveyor flung to the far edge of a valley nobody has mapped, and a long, dangerous road back home. Built in a custom engine over the last year, this game is all about getting back to the roots that got me into gaming in the first place! Wishlist and a repost would genuinely help a solo dev: store.steampowered.com/app/5…

An indie developer's game was cloned and marketed with AI right after setting up his Steam page. I've been following @thecodeotter for a while on YouTube and was shocked to see this happen. Please check out his game rather than the AI clone. Links in reply.

This little kappa animation is adorable. The kappa itself is only 4 sprites: 2 for walking, and two for when it turns away, but anything more would be less.

This looks like a useful tool to practice drawing.
A game for people who still want to learn how to draw - Walk around a garden of statues and sketch them - Real sculptures 3D scanned for accurate anatomy - Dynamic lighting mode to practice shading Game is Figure Drawing Garden.

This guy is joking, but there isn't a day that I'm not partially doing game dev away from a screen. I use pens, note cards, notebooks, a D&D grid set, and dice. I sometimes write C# code longhand and design sprites in a notebook. My best work happens there.
Walked into Starbucks today. Guy in front of me typed a question into ChatGPT instead of Google. Just out in the open like that. In front of children. I left and went to the another coffee shop without WiFi. Took the window seat so people can see me working (it helps with my anxiety and also I want them to see me working). Today I'm coding my dream game. Started by drawing the whole roadmap with pen and paper (highly recommend this step). Then I hand-typed the code on my typewriter. None of that auto-complete or spellcheck crap. My buddy scans the pages and pastes them into a pre-AI version of VS Code. Turnaround is 5-6 business days. Last week he got one semicolon wrong and I lost a month. Live and learn. My game is already way better on paper than AI slop. It's a pixel art roguelike deck builder is all I'm going to say. The release date is 2031, or whenever my guy's scanner gets fixed. Stay human 🫡

Looks like the artist really sunk their teeth into creating this early 3DCG.🧛‍♂️
Such a fun little documentary series intro from the 90s

This is a good video.
Made a quick video for any indie dev who's been nervous about announcing their game lately Not a strategy video. It's about the one thing in your game nobody can copy, and why that matters more than ever right now This one's for you ❤️ youtube.com/watch?v=HKfoKGnr…

This is art that makes me want to play the game, and it's an oil painting! It reminds me of the ones my family and I modeled for in the 80s. I love this.
A few people were asking about the new keyart for the game so here it is. It's an actual oil painting by Matthew Stawicki @StawickiArt . Yep, an actual physical piece of art by a real artist. I had to compress it for this post, the original file is massive. We wanted someone that would represent the old school Dungeons and Dragons art that we remember. Oliver was reading some Dragonlance books at the time and noticed Matt was the one who had done a lot of the covers (I loved his Dragons of a Fallen Sun cover) so we contacted him and he agreed to do the commission. I think it represents the game really well.

The article's photo gave me flashbacks. This large original painting for advertising Conan used to hang in my living room. In the 80s, Conan was fiercely watching me and my friends play Sega Master System.

This is fascinating.

After seeing the solution, it's still amazing. Practical effects are magical.
ALICE'S ADVENTURES IN WONDERLAND (1972) contains an unbroken 30-second shot that shows Alice magically shrinking in the frame after eating a magic mushroom, which continues to baffle people for over 50 years. What you see really happened in one take with no cuts. There were no green screens, no compositing shots together and no digital VFX or CGI. It was captured in camera. How do you think this incredible shot was accomplished?

Crows tend to get a bad rap in Japan, but I love them. A crow used to come to my school bus stop in America every morning to hang out with us. I vaguely remember hearing it used to be someone's pet.

The graphic design here is so tight. I wonder if it was by Barbara Laszewski Garner. She worked with Carden & Cherry.
