It’s pretty “rich” (pun intended) and not at all surprising that the Jeff Bezos owned, self-proclaimed free market advocates at the WaPo editorial board don’t like the Wealth Proceeds Tax. 1/
Truly astounded by @MayorBowser's comments. The social safety net isn’t designed to get more people moving here, more tourists, or more jobs. It’s about meeting basic human needs in a city with extreme racial inequity and a high cost of living. washingtonian.com/2025/07/08… 1/
Letting revenue fall relative to economic growth will only cause DC to backtrack on its promises and lose ground on its achievements thus far to creating a thriving, racially and economically equitable District. 5/
DC’s Local Fund budget, primarily funded by residents’ income, property, & sales taxes, has held steady over the last 20 yrs as a share of the economy. Revenue & spending are set to decline over the next 4 yrs. Lawmakers should raise additional resources to keep up w/ growth. 3/
Voters also support raising taxes on capital gains when given information on who such an increase would impact. When told that a capital gains tax increase would primarily impact the wealthiest 1% of households, a majority of voters (53%) support it. /4
Voters are almost 3x more likely to support raising taxes on the wealthy than they are to oppose. There’s also support for raising taxes on households with $1mil+ incomes and properties with $1.5mil+ taxable value. /3
At a time when the mayor is proposing to slash critical programs, DC lawmakers should know that voters want to see them do more to support residents, not less. A strong majority believe that the DC gov't should play a more active role in helping people in need. /2
Where oh where is the FY24 Budget Exec Summary w/ Revenue Tables, where is the BSA language? So much for getting all the info in the same day #DCBudget
We’re rooting for a #FairBudgetDC that is restorative & prioritizes racial justice. Will you join us @MayorBowser @ChmnMendelson? #MeetingTheNeeds #DCBudget

It takes almost 2yrs for Black women in DC to earn what white men do in 1 for FT/YR work. All together now on #BlackWomensEqualPayDay w/@nwlc
Today is #BlackWomensEqualPay Day, marking the date when Black women across the US finally reach pay parity with white, non-Hispanic men. Black women in DC earn just 54 cents to every dollar earned by white men. dcfpi.org/all/reflections-on…
