Our Chief Executive, Essar Group, @prashantruia, on the Shri Shashi Ruia Memorial Golf Championship and the legacy it honours.
Papa had a deep love for golf and valued the friendships and connections the game fostered.
It is a privilege for us to honour his memory by launching the Shri Shashi Ruia Memorial Golf Championship.
Today, in the presence of my friend and cricket legend Kapil Dev, we announced this championship, which reflects our shared passion for sport and our commitment to supporting the growth of professional golf in India.
I am grateful to @pgtofindia for partnering with @EssarFoundation to bring this championship to life.
I hope it provides a strong platform for Indian golfers to showcase their talent and inspires more people to take up the game.

VIDEO | Mumbai: DP World Professional Golf Tour of India and Essar Foundation on Friday announced the launch of the Shri Shashi Ruia Memorial Golf Championship, a new annual tournament on India’s professional golf calendar. PGTI President Kapil Dev says, "I think this is just the beginning. If you look at the 1950s, 1960s and 1980s, golf was very popular, and it was a difficult journey for cricketers as well. I think this is a similar journey. It just needs time, and tournaments like this will give the sport a kick-start. I hope golf will do much better in the coming years. When new technology comes in, you keep changing your equipment, but I think it is a myth that golf is expensive. You need a ball to play golf, just as you need one for cricket. Shuttlecocks are expensive, too. Every sport has its requirements, but if you want to develop a sport, it can happen."

DP World PGTI and Essar Foundation have come together to launch the Shri Shashi Ruia Memorial Golf Championship, a five-year partnership that will see the championship become an annual fixture through 2031. The inaugural edition will be held at Mumbai’s iconic Willingdon Sports Club from January 10–15, 2027, with a ₹2 crore prize purse.
More than a tournament, this partnership is an investment in the growth of Indian professional golf — creating a stronger competitive platform, greater opportunities for Indian professionals and emerging talent, and bringing the sport to one of India’s most dynamic cities.

Every student begins as a blank page. What they become is a teacher’s greatest achievement.
Since 1994, the teachers at Shri N.K. Ruia Secondary School in Lonavala have given children from eight nearby villages the chance to learn, grow, and dream.
This Teachers’ Day, we thank them for the children, the school, and the vision we started with.
Happy Teachers’ Day.
