It’s cool to visualize how topography can possibly influence tornado environments in Arizona with the HRRR model. Valley surfaces have increased temperature/moisture and weaker winds, which increase instability and low level shear compared to higher elevations (second sounding).

...while not perfect, did a decent job indicating which day had a higher tornado risk. Of course, in any forecasting situation, the model is dependent on the accuracy of the weather model, while these analyses were done on historical RAP-RUC data.
