The problems that cars present are endless, and we should be aggressively phasing them out of our cities.
Don’t get distracted by the tech: trains and bikes are the future!
Driving is not just an air pollution and climate change problem — turns out, it just might be the largest contributor of microplastics in California coastal waters bit.ly/2pnWqWT

But Berkeley banned plastic straws.
"Rainfall washes more than 7 trillion microplastics, much of it tire particles, into San Francisco Bay each year — 300x greater than microfibers/beads from polyester clothes, beauty products, and other plastics." latimes.com/environment/stor…

When Houston banned red light cameras in 2010, fatal crashes at intersections jumped 30% and total crashes jumped 116%.
Now that Texas, one of the most dangerous states in the country, has banned them, we should expect to see more dead people.

People who live near high quality bike and pedestrian infrastructure are twice as likely to meet recommended daily exercise levels, a new study finds.
More interesting, the study showed the availability bike facility itself *caused* the increase.

As you are a writer, you should know that ZERO accidents are caused by DUI, road rage, speeding and tailgating.
Those are all negligent or criminal acts that predictably result in crashes.
Please use #crashnotaccident as is suggested by @APStylebook

IMHO, a technology doesn't have to be faultless in order to be better, even (especially?) when it's a matter of life/death. How many accidents are caused by #DUI , road rage, speeding, tailgating, etc.? All significantly reduced with AVs. @mrinalini101 and @runseanrun , thots?

Why would a police department in 2019 have an "Accident Reconstruction Team"?
Do they only do "accidents". What if it's a road rage, vehicular homicide? Not to mention drunk, drugged crashes.
None of these are "accidents".
Please change to #crashnotaccident

But a new bill from @repblumenauer @AyannaPressley and @VernBuchanan would let bike commuters write off up to $53 per month. usa.streetsblog.org/2019/03/…

Europe already has per-capita traffic fatality rates that are as low as a quarter of the U.S.'s.
The gap will only widen -- affecting average life expectancy -- as Europe embraces progressive traffic safety reforms and the U.S. ignores them.
This is sort of a big deal: Europe will require all new cars to be equipped with tech that will automatically prevent them from speeding.
