If you think helping people is expensive, wait until you calculate the cost of abandoning them. Emergency rooms, shelters, policing, courts, prisons, and the human cost of lives lost. Poverty is expensive. Homelessness is expensive. Neglect is expensive. Investing in people isn't just compassion, it's common sense. And sheesh, we're paying a fortune to keep doing the wrong thing.

Perhaps Air Canada can offer a diplomatic discount.
What flight is Trump Ambassador Hoekstra taking back to Washington so we can wave good bye?

Wise words.
The consensus today is that a strong majority of voters in the US have voted to reject war, and to reject the brutal squeeze out of the 99% to fill the coffers of the super-wealthy. Recent history suggests that this clear message will be ignored, and they’ll get the same thing all over again, just this time with slicker marketing. But it’s not clear that the 1% and their loyal retinue in politics, in finance, in media will be able to shove the toothpaste back in the tube this time. From France to the US to Ireland to Italy, from Belgium to Spain, Albania, Serbia - people have had enough. Now, as always, the game is on to co-opt them, their movements and their anger, and to turn them to the benefit of a class of people who thrive on war and inequality, and on the divisions they sow between us. They are wealthy, and they are powerful, and they will defend their interests. They always do. But if we can unite, against ALL wars, against a system that relentlessly channels the planet's wealth into an ever-smaller number of hands - we can win. If we can't - then everything that's bad now will get much worse.

“This budget is your opportunity to deliver nation-building projects that benefit people.” Precisely why we need the investment in disabled people by way of a publicly funded national disability insurance model of support for those with lifelong long disabilities, from birth.

To be disabled is almost always to be traumatized. It’s living in a body that can’t keep you safe. It’s doctors dismissing you. It’s family and friends abandoning you. It’s living in a society that doesn’t see your value. It’s constantly having to prove your life is worth living.

The same respect?
When the superintendent visits a school, everyone makes sure they're welcomed, respected, and taken care of. But what about the people who keep that school running every single day? Custodians are often the first to arrive and among the last to leave. They clean up after school events, respond to unexpected messes, and make sure classrooms are ready for students and teachers. Yet their work can become so routine that people stop noticing it. Respect goes beyond saying thank you. It's giving custodial staff advance notice about events, cleaning up what we can ourselves, respecting their time, and including them as valued members of the school community. And students are paying attention. They notice which adults we greet, which ones we thank, and which ones we walk past without acknowledging. We can't teach students that every person deserves respect while treating some of the adults in our schools as more important than others. A person's job title should never determine how much kindness, dignity, or respect they receive.

Replying to @fightthewcb @WSIB
A 2007 study of Toronto homeless found that 58% of the homeless were injured workers. This study was BEFORE the @WSIB was agresively denying legitimate claims from 2010 onwards resulting in a $40 billion surplus and a record 50 year low on employer premiums! Fraud is fraud and the WSIB is Fraud! – at Hamilton, Ontario

This has been an absolute failure on every level, across every level of government. I've been saying this for years. We cannot keep allowing people to live and die on our streets while pretending the solutions don't exist. Housing is essential, but housing alone isn't enough. We need proper mental health care, addiction services, treatment options, and community supports attached to that housing. People need more than a roof over their heads, they need a real opportunity to rebuild their lives. We don't have a shortage of solutions, we have a shortage of action.

Ontario knows $733 OW and $1,436 ODSP cannot pay rent. That is legislated poverty, not bad luck. If they will not fix it, litigate it. Charter s.7 and s.15. #LegislatedPoverty #ODSP ⚖️ #DougFord #Litigation #Housing #Canada #ODSP #OntarioWorks #Onpoli #HumanRights

Nor could they speak to defend themselves if they didn’t want to be killed. Is that okay with you?
Hope it includes vulnerable stroke victims who can't initiate communication, no autonomy, can't speak to defend themselves if harm being done. Wd be living hell, torture, being abused & not able to stop it. Cruelty beyond belief.

I believe this “autistic flow” causes many behaviour issues in education. When students become so “zoned in” it can be very difficult to transition. Without proper training and understanding it can lead to severe outbursts. This paper falls short on pros, cons and solutions.

#NDIP if we are ready to join as one
Disability support systems were designed decades ago, and often fail to account for current living costs, modern assistive technologies, or the true expenses associated with living with a disability.
