Apparently it was part of a project called Guild01, where 4 famous Japanese game designers were asked to make short but fun expiriences for the 3DS in 2012. The other 3 games were Weapon Shop de Omasse, Aero Porter, and Crimson Shroud
and it's looking like I won't be able to get hold of any until after my doctor appointment next Friday... which means probably yet another week of getting next to nothing done, only this time there is actually stuff I ought to get working on......
Going on three weeks without my ADHD meds and barely able to make any progress on comms. I was thankfully done with all but one in the first week and managed to squeak that over the finish line, and I simply took the second week as a vacation, but now it is just getting ridiculous…
Having finished Fortune’s Weave, I have got to say that Eshmel is probably the most glaring case of Mary Sue self-insert yet, exacerbated by the writing staff’s refusal to explicitly touch on the ONE THING that could make them a compelling, likable character.
Which is maddening because what the story *hints at* is very interesting and would make for a great story. But they are allergic to paying it off and instead expect you to care more about a build-a-bear MC you don’t get to use or see outside the last 15% of the game over the flame lords you spend more than a hundred hours building up and bonding with.
It’s like… who thought this was a good idea? I don’t even dislike the self insert lords in recent FE games. But FEFW does TOO good of a job making me like the flame lords and their posse, because by the time Eshmel is reintroduced, everyone suddenly fawning over your Mary Sue in the story’s last act feels simply galling. At least Engage starts out with the MC worship up front for all to see. Three Houses builds it up gradually and lets you get attached to Byleth before making them the Chosen One. Fortune’s Weave sneaks it in after 200 hours of otherwise good writing and retroactively casts all the previous storytelling in a vastly worse light.
I think this was genuinely the worst approach they could have taken with Eshmel and it bugs me worse the more I think about it.
JUST MAKE THE MC EXPLICITLY [spoiler]. SUBTLETY IS NOT INHERENTLY GOOD WRITING.

Having played an irresponsible amount of Fortunes Weave, I have gotten to the start of Act 3, whereupon I now realize you need to spend karma shards on *each* mount and battalion you want to carry forward from Cai and Theodora’s routes?! 😭
It’s also weird because the game gives you the ability to freely replay routes and individual chapters, so it seems like it wants you to be able to play it over and over again with the same save file. Hence the boons. But unless there’s something I’m missing, needing karma shards to merge units and carry forward inventory just kind of kills that idea. 😑

Why are tech bros surprised so many people hate AI when it is being shoved in our faces and making the internet worse? AI summaries on Google get basic information wrong. CONSTANTLY. Copilot slows Windows down to a fucking crawl on less powerful machines. The fucking Grok button gets pushed into the Twitter UI just to make sure you accidentally click it.
And it’s all WORTHLESS. Vapid, lobotomized, tedious, time-wasting, pandering, incompetent. Microsoft Word’s built in dictation has been UNUSABLE for smut ever since they implemented that Copilot junk, because it refuses to recognize any “naughty” words. Image search is miserable and utterly polluted with insipid, monotonous, uninspired AI slop. I have to scroll right past the AI summary on Google searches because most of the time it just gets shit flat out WRONG and CONTRADICTS ITS OWN CITED LINKS.
It makes shit slower. It ruins things that used to work perfectly fine. And they want us paying a goddamn SUBSCRIPTION for that shit? Fuck off. I don’t want more AI. I want all this garbage AI integration torn out by the fucking ROOT.
AND DONT EVEN GET ME STARTED ON WHAT THOSE FUCKERS HAVE DONE TO RAM PRICES.
