“Ea die qua rex Eduuardus fuit vivus et mortuus” (on the day King Edward was alive and dead) sounds like a riddle, but it is a legal formula referring to 5 January 1066 - the day Edward the Confessor (the last Anglo Saxon king of England) died without an heir. His death set off the struggle for the English crown that ended with the Norman Conquest. The phrase appears more than 2000 times in the Exon Domesday, where it is often abbreviated to “die qua Rex E.F.V.”. 🔗 To read more visit: exeter-cathedral.org.uk/news… #ExeterCathedral #YourCathedral

This Sunday, for the first time, the nation will come together to celebrate the harvest of the sea, and you're invited. We are proud to be hosting this landmark service – one that has received the support of Her Majesty The Queen – recognising the fishermen and women, fishing families and coastal communities whose dedication has provided sustainable seafood to Britain for generations. Held in partnership with Love British Food, and supported by Seafish, the UK’s public body supporting the seafood industry, the National Harvest of the Sea celebrates seafood as an essential part of Britain’s food story. The Bishop of Exeter will preach at the service, in partnership with The Fishermen’s Mission, area manager for Devon Helen Lovell-Smith, bringing together representatives from across the fishing industry, seafood businesses, coastal communities, churches and supporters from around the United Kingdom. ✦ Sunday 11 October, 6pm ✦ Exeter Cathedral ✦ Free to attend; no booking required We look forward to welcoming you to this landmark service. #ExeterCathedral #YourCathedral
