ALT Jujutsu Kaisen, Ch. 116 This is one of my all-time favorite JJK scenes. What does it mean to be human? To seek community? The reassurance of self through the reflection of others? A running theme is that curses and humans aren't all that different, but are, at times, rather indistinguishable. After all: "I'm you." If saying "I am a curse" is to say "I am human," what does that mean for Sukuna? Or for a child of Kenjaku? What does it say about someone like Geto, who swallows a whole host of curses? What does it say about every person reflected in Mahito's face? I would argue that this is one of the clearest reflections of Sukuna's identity. "I don't know." What human does? We only begin to find out when confronted with death. Perhaps this was Sukuna's first real glimpse at his final fate. It's probably an oversimplification, but JJK gives us the answer time and time again. The worst curse of all, the most human of all, is love.
