Way to go, Hawk!
Today, I was proud to present the Governor’s Medal of Freedom to Baseball Hall of Famer and great Floridian Andre Dawson. His distinguished career in Major League Baseball, his contributions to the sport, and his lasting impact on our state have earned him this award.
From his childhood in Southwest Miami, to his college days at FAMU, to his legendary MLB career, “The Hawk” has represented Florida in the best possible way for decades. His generous support of FAMU and its baseball program has helped generations of student-athletes succeed. The Governor’s Medal of Freedom is the highest honor I can bestow on any Floridian, and Andre Dawson truly deserves this recognition.

On 45th anniversary of Blue Monday, I repeat: if the Expos ever return, Steve Rogers, brilliant down the stretch in '81 (ask Steve Carlton), should throw the ceremonial first pitch.

Roberto Clemente wasn’t just a hero to Puerto Rico but to all of us. He spoke on behalf of Latin American players and of people. He was the light at the end of the tunnel for all of us, and I’m here because of him.
We should all understand that baseball goes beyond the sport we play.
We were there for that one, too. It was loud. But not as loud as the Raines moment. The crowd rattled the pitcher so much he walked Rock on 4 pitches.
Match d'ouverture à domicile/ home opener 2001. When a returning @TimRaines30 stepped into the batter's box for the first time.
Wow.
