This autumn, leave the leaves to help biodiversity in urban areas 🍂
It's a protective habitat layer insulating the soil, providing safe overwintering cover for animals, and feeding local food webs
We all can help protecting habitats – starting in our gardens

Extreme weather is intensifying, and its impacts fall hardest on those with the least protection.
☂️ Reducing climate risks at scale demands both stronger adaptation and faster emission reductions.

Europe's rivers are warning us: By 2030, global demand for freshwater is expected to exceed supply by 40%.“If you have a lack of water, you will have a lack of drinking water, a lack of food, a lack of energy, and a lack of biodiversity,” Zappa concludes.

Wildfires are burning across Europe right now. But how do satellites actually track them? 🔥🛰️
In her latest seminar, Dr Lucrecia Pettinari – who is the Project Manager of the ESA Climate Change Initiative Fire project – explains how remote sensing maps fuel types, tracks vegetation dryness, detects active fires in near real-time, and maps burn scars after the fact.
The data is powerful. But cloud cover, land use changes, and rapid tropical regrowth all make consistent monitoring challenging.

Breaking News!
Code: y-Axis alert!
The latest global preliminary sea-surface temperature for August 23rd blew away the previous record set just yesterday. I had to raise the y-axis to accomodate the new record.
Will I have to extend the y-axis again tomorrow? Stay tuned.
