THE SYSTEMATIC PERSECUTION OF AFGHAN WOMEN AND GIRLS MUST HAVE CONSEQUENCES FARAGEER welcomes the #International #Criminal #Court’s decision to unseal four arrest @warrants in the Afghanistan situation, concerning senior #Taliban #leaders over alleged crimes against #humanity , including gender and political persecution. The #ICC’s findings are significant: #gender #persecution can include not only direct violence, but also systematic and institutionalised deprivation of fundamental rights and freedoms. For women and girls in Afghanistan, whose education, movement, expression, family life and other fundamental freedoms have been severely restricted, #accountability matters. The international community must now act by supporting the ICC #investigation and upholding the warrants, and ensuring that those accused cannot evade accountability through diplomatic engagement or political expediency. Justice must be pursued and Afghan women must have a central voice in shaping the path toward justice, dignity and an inclusive future.

#Farageer's some members of the Advocacy Committee , participated in #ICAN’s global “#SecurityReimagined” gathering a four-day space bringing together women leaders and #peacebuilders, from different countries affected by conflicts and security tensions to explore how local realities can shape global approaches to peace and security. As part of the gathering, The Sharp Edge of Peace, a documentary on negotiations with the Taliban, was screened, followed by a powerful panel with @nabilamusleh , Wazhma Frogh, @ZarqaYaftali , @alkasadat , and QahramanaKaker. The conversation brought Afghan women’s experiences, agency, and #leadership to the centre of discussions on negotiations and #peacebuilding.
