"Web components weren’t designed for you. […] They were purposefully designed to be a low-level bare metal primitive for library authors to build on; they were designed to be used with a library, a thin layer of abstraction butter on top."

The Edge browser team is abandoning React (the browser UI is done on web technologies) and now their UI is getting 40% faster.
I’ve been saying for a long time that modern frameworks have advanced a lot relative to React with its slow VDom.

One of the most interesting projects I've seen regarding design tokens is @FAST_UI.
They've developed an adaptive ui system. In this system, you wouldn't necessarily manually pick colours for your tokens, but they would be determined by an algorithmic colour called a recipe...

Kudos to the @FAST_UI and @fluentui teams for creating a great framework (#FastUI) and an impressive set of controls (#FluentUI) like Web Components. I am impressed by the quality and by the design system underneath it. Creating new themes is super easy!

This is the most advanced and well thought-through token modeling system out there, afaik. I like that it touches on what could be considered a "token object model".

The wonderful thing about this is that it’s a single implementation. There is not duplicated effort to serve React, Angular, Vue…etc. These *feel* native for React developers but @code gets consistency by serving a single source of truth under the hood.

This is a huge milestone for us; opening up a standard set of theme-able UI controls for React developers to consume when building @code extensions. (Loved seeing the cross-team effort across both @microsoft and our friends at @GitHubNext for this one.)
