If your company has hired remote IT workers, there's a chance your business helped fund the North Korean regime's ballistic missiles program. Thousands of North Korean-trained IT workers are posing as legitimate remote employees by using stolen identities to dupe companies into hiring them. The millions of dollars they have earned from unwitting businesses are funneled back to the North Korean government.
The scheme relies on a network of facilitators – including Americans – who are paid to appear on camera, participate in job interviews, verify fraudulent identities, and connect the company's laptops to their home internet so it looks as if the remote workers are based in the U.S.

Reward of up to $5M. In 2024, #FBI St. Louis led the Bureau's first indictment of North Korean nationals who alledgedly conspired to use false, stolen, & borrowed IDs of US & other persons to conceal their identities & foreign locations to obtain remote IT work for US companies.
The FBI sends our condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Deputy Sheriff Katherine Frank. Deputy Frank had served with the Minnehaha Sheriff's Office for nearly two and a half years and had previously served for two years with the South Dakota State Penitentiary.

The first ever Cyber fugitive on FBI’s Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list has been captured and is now in U.S. custody.
With the arrest of Anibal Alexander Canelon Aguirre, the number of Most Wanted criminals apprehended has reached double digits. This marks a historic tenth fugitive caught since January 2025.
Canelon Aguirre is wanted for his alleged role in leading an international ATM “jackpotting” scheme for Tren de Aragua, a designated foreign terrorist organization. His network infects ATMs across the country with malware to force them to dispense cash without legitimate transactions – a crime known as ATM jackpotting.
Since 2017, FBI has tracked approximately 2,500 of these incidents, with losses exceeding $63 million.
But today, we are surging efforts to crush transnational gangs and defend the homeland from cybercrime. @FBIOmaha and our Cyber teams have targeted the entire jackpotting network, from ringleaders and malware developers to ground crews. Working with DOJ, we have secured charges against more than 120 jackpotting defendants.
And now, with Canelon Aguirre’s capture, we took down the alleged architect of this whole criminal enterprise.
