FCT POLICE WARN AGAINST USE OF VEHICLES WITHOUT LICENCE PLATES AND CONCEALED PLATE NUMBERS
…as CP FCT orders arrest and immediate prosecution of offenders
The FCT Police Command wishes to warn motorists and vehicle owners against the use of vehicles without valid licence plates, deliberately faded plate numbers as well as vehicles with concealed license plates particularly by persons driving SUVs except top government officials. The Command also warns against the use of fake diplomatic plate numbers or the use of such numbers by unauthorised persons within the Federal Capital Territory.
The warning, issued by the CP, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, PhD., FCAI, follows the proliferation of such vehicles, which have been observed to be used by criminal elements to evade detection, identification and arrest during and after the commission of offences.
The Federal Capital Territory is a peculiar environment where the use of such vehicles poses significant security concerns, as it may hinder effective identification and tracking by law enforcement agencies.
The Commissioner of Police therefore warns that motorists found operating such vehicles in violation of the law will be arrested, and prosecuted immediately in accordance with the law. Further directing all police officers across the FCT to intensify enforcement and ensure strict compliance with extant laws governing vehicle licensing. Officers have also been directed to conduct such operations professionally and refrain from using the exercise as a means of extortion.
The Command urges residents to support police operations, as security is a collective responsibility. Members of the public are also encouraged to report suspicious vehicles or activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency numbers: 08032003913, 08028940883.

FCT POLICE CONDUCT MASSIVE RAID ON IDENTIFIED CRIME FLASHPOINTS, RECOVER KNIVES, TOY GUN, CANNABIS, ILLICIT DRUGS
The FCT Police Command, on Saturday, 19th September 2026, conducted a massive raid on identified crime flashpoints, shanties and uncompleted buildings across the Federal Capital Territory as part of ongoing efforts to prevent crime, disrupt criminal activities and enhance the safety and security of residents.
The operation, carried out across various locations, led to the raid of several identified criminal hideouts, with approximately 300 persons taken into custody for screening. Items recovered during the operation include knives, a toy gun, cannabis and other illicit drugs.
The suspects are currently undergoing thorough screening and profiling. Those found to have committed offences will be appropriately charged to court in accordance with the law, while persons found to have no case to answer will be released after due screening.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, PhD, FCAI, reiterates that the Command will continue to sustain intelligence-led raids and proactive policing operations across the Territory, particularly at locations identified as potential hideouts for criminals.
The CP further cautions youths and other residents against the use and abuse of illicit drugs, stressing that substance abuse can impair judgment, fuel violent and criminal behaviour, and expose individuals and communities to serious security risks. He urges anyone struggling with drug use to seek appropriate counselling and rehabilitation support rather than allowing substance abuse to lead them into criminal activities.
The CP also charged police officers participating in such operations to conduct themselves professionally and in strict accordance with the law. He warned officers against using raids or arrests as an avenue for extortion, intimidation, harassment or unlawful demands for money, stressing that any officer found engaging in such misconduct will face appropriate disciplinary action.
The FCT Police Command remains committed to protecting lives and property and calls on residents to continue providing credible and timely information on suspicious activities and criminal hideouts within their communities.
