Black people make up 7% of the Massachusetts population but 26% of the prison and jail population. Black people are already known to be disproportionately affected by COVID and COVID rates are increasing in prisons and jails across the state.
We lost 10 lives to COVID in Massachusetts prisons & jails from April to July. We've had >300 new cases in the past week, and I'm terrified for what that means.
