ALT A navy blue background with rainbow stripes in the top left hand corner and bottom right hand corner. Text reads: Fierté Fredericton Pride, Call for board members. In the bottom centre of the screen is the Fierté Fredericton Pride logo, a geometric heart depicting the Fredericton walking bridge, the water a kaleidoscope of rainbow colours.
ALT Green square image with olive branch border. In the centre of the graphic is the Fierté Fredericton Pride logo, a rainbow geometric heart depicting the walking bridge. Text reads Statement in regard to Palestine Solidarity.
ALT Green square image with olive branch border. Text reads: Pride has always been political and has been about collective liberation since its inception during the Stonewall Uprising. While Pride is an opportunity for the community to come together and celebrate, it is also important that Pride remains a vehicle for necessary change. It is not about corporations or parties. Pride is, at its core, about community.
ALT Green square image with olive branch border. Text reads: It should not be considered radical for a Pride organization to be anti-genocide, anti-war, or anti-apartheid. It should not be controversial for the queer community to show solidarity with a people who are being actively and indiscriminately exterminated. Fierté Fredericton Pride’s solidarity with Palestine should come as a surprise to no one.
ALT Green square image with olive branch border. Text reads: Many claim that Palestine is not a safe space for 2SLGBTQIA+ folks, so why would Fierté Fredericton Pride show support to Palestinians? The 2SLGBTQIA+ community faces persecution everywhere. In Israel. In so-called Canada. There is no such thing as a truly safe space for us, not yet. Palestinian liberation opens up the doors to queer Palestinian liberation.
ALT The weekly rallies held by Fredericton Palestine Solidarity are always peaceful. Many queer people and Jewish people participate in them. Advocating for a ceasefire and for a free Palestine is not antisemitism.
ALT The backlash we have received for our Grand Marshal announcement and our solidarity against genocide has been homophobic, racist, and religiously-intolerant. Characterizing Palestinians as terrorists is racist and irresponsible. That kind of rhetoric puts Palestinian lives in danger, not just in Gaza, but around the globe.
ALT Fierté Fredericton Pride has always welcomed Jewish people to participate in our festival and parade. Claims that Fierté Fredericton Pride’s solidarity with Palestine is antisemitic are false and grossly misrepresent our organization. We do not tolerate antisemitism, Islamophobia, religious-intolerance, or racism of any kind, including anti-Palestinian racism.
ALT There has been no impact to our festival lineup as a result of our stance. We appreciate the continued support and allyship from our community, partners, and sponsors. Fierté Fredericton Pride reaffirms our support of Fredericton Palestine Solidarity and its workWe stand by our decisions in regard to sponsors and parade participants. Fierté Fredericton Pride represents not only the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, but its intersections, and we take that responsibility seriously.
