Snow ‘Pacas

Sad day on the farm. Vanilla Cream, the alpaca with me in the profile picture, unexpectedly passed today. It’s a fact of life when you have livestock, but it’s still tough to lose part of your herd. We’ll miss her. #heavysigh

Busy morning so far. Dropped daughter off at work, fed alpacas, picked up hay and other feed at the feed store, unloaded the hay, mucked alpaca barn, spread fresh straw in alpaca barn, loaded the outdoor wood boiler, then ate breakfast at 9:30. #alpacalife

Lost an alpaca to old age today. His name was Amigo when we got him but we changed it to Inigo because he was very defensive at first. “I am Inigo Alpaca. You have touched my fleece. Prepare to be kicked.” He was a rescue we had for 4 years. I like to think we made those good.

We know our new @HusqvarnaUSA Rancher chain saw is ready to work because it’s FARM TOUGH. I like good and useful tools.

The only time my alpacas are even slightly dangerous is when I am feeding them fresh picked apples. They’ll start trying to chew on my arms and fingers because they are so excited about the fruit!

Calandra is a recent addition. I think she may have gone three years without a shear. We are doing her first because we knew she’d be the hardest with all that fleece. #alpaca #shearingday

It’s a few weeks late, but it’s shearing day. I always say we will post videos, but then we are too busy to take any video. You can reasonable expectations a picture of some sheared alpacas this afternoon. :)
