This large sinkhole at the intersection of Bay Beach Lane and Estero Boulevard on Fort Myers Beach was caused by a broken underground water pipe, town officials said. The damaged pipe caused erosion beneath the road, officials said. Repairs are expected to begin on Monday.
The remnants of the Fort Myers Beach Pier are all but gone as work continues on the pier replacement project, which is expected to be completed next year. The pier was destroyed by Hurricane Ian in 2022.

While most Floridians sleep, more than 30 million migrating birds can fly across the Sunshine State in a single night during peak Fall migration in late September and October.
