Fort Scott native Stephen Gentry is an assistant coach for the Gonzaga University men’s basketball team who will play today against Georgia in the 2025 NCAA Tournament. He was an all state🏀 player for the Tigers in 2001. His association with Gonzaga dates back to his time as a walk-on player from 2002 to 2006, during which the team achieved a 107-20 record and secured four consecutive West Coast Conference (WCC) titles. After his playing career, Gentry served as Gonzaga’s Director of Basketball Operations from 2017 to 2019. In this role, he contributed to the team’s impressive 65-9 record over two seasons, with the Bulldogs winning back-to-back WCC titles and making consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances. Before returning to Gonzaga as an assistant coach, Gentry was an assistant coach at the University of Illinois, where he played a significant role in enhancing the team’s offensive performance. His coaching career also includes stints at Stephen F. Austin, Oklahoma State, and Texas A&M, where he worked alongside coach Brad Underwood. In 2021, Gentry rejoined Gonzaga as an assistant coach, bringing with him a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of the program. #sportsinkansas photo: Dan Pelle/The Spokesman-Review (Gentry pictured right)
