October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month, and we want to celebrate by shining the spotlight on some of the ways CCWD partner agencies work to ensure we provide well-rounded education and workforce opportunities to people with disabilities in South Carolina. The South Carolina Vocational Rehabilitation Department (SCVRD) helps people with disabilities prepare for, find, and maintain meaningful employment. Its services may include counseling, training, education, and assistive technology, all tailored to each person’s employment goals. SCVRD collaborates with businesses to connect them with qualified candidates and create workspaces where more people can contribute and succeed. Disabilities can be visible or hidden, but what matters is each person's ability, experience, and potential! SCVRD also works with schools through Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS) to help students with disabilities explore careers, develop workplace skills, and transition successfully into employment after graduation. October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month, and we want to celebrate by shining the spotlight on some of the ways CCWD partner agencies work to ensure we provide well-rounded education and workforce opportunities to people with disabilities in South Carolina. The South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce (DEW, @SCDEWinfo) provides jobseeker services to all jobseekers. This includes programs tailored for individuals with disabilities! Its Ticket to Work program aims to help people receiving Social Security Disability Insurance and Supplemental Security Income access the training and job-search support they need. DEW's Disabled Veterans’ Outreach Program (DVOP) staff across the state manage cases for disabled veterans who need support finding education, training, and job opportunities, while providing comprehensive resources through SC Works partners. DEW manages the Federal Bonding and Work Opportunity Tax Credit Programs, which provide financial incentives to employers who hire people facing significant employment barriers, including those with physical and intellectual disabilities! On Monday, September 21, 2026, the Coordinating Council for Workforce Development (CCWD) held its quarterly full council meeting.📝 The CCWD welcomed three former interns to the panel to share how their early internship experiences helped them develop the foundational skills necessary for career success. The conversation highlighted the importance of durable/soft skills and how educators can connect curriculum to skills employers are seeking. Panelists discussed the significance of creating and sustaining workplace connections and the impact of mentoring the younger generation. Prior to the intern engagement panel, CCWD members learned about the progress of the Unified State Plan (USP), the status of the Find Your Future (FYF) portal – a virtual, interactive platform that helps South Carolinians connect to personalized education, training, and employment opportunities tailored to them – and the progress each committee is making on its annual deliverables. Following the panel, CCWD members entered a breakout session and, with insights from the former interns, addressed thought-provoking questions about skill development, the importance of technical credentials and durable/soft skills, and how educators and employers can strengthen their alignment. As collaboration remains central to the CCWD’s mission, the meeting concluded by reinforcing the importance of visibility for joint projects that align with the objectives outlined in the Unified State Plan. Visit findyourfuture.sc.gov/resour… to explore the member agencies that comprise the CCWD and see how they continue to establish a systematic approach to statewide education and workforce development. Thank you again to our CCWD members and guest panelists for their ongoing commitment and participation! #CCWD #findyourfuture #fyfsc #WorkforceDevelopment #SouthCarolina
