ALT Reclaim The Frame white border on black background. Image of 4 female filmmakers - Jane Campion, Julia Durcournau, Justine Triet and Mati Diop BEYOND THE BOX OFFICE In Festival du Cannes 78-year history only three female filmmakers have won the prestigious Palme d'Or award. Jane Campion first won for THE PIANO in 1993, followed by (an unbelievable 18-year gap until 2021 when) Julia Ducournau's TITANE scooped the award. Patience is virtue as it was only 2 years until Justine Triet's Oscar winning ANATOMY OF A FALL took the Palme D'Or last year. In 2019, Mati Diop was the first black female filmmaker to ever be included in the competition, winning the Grand Prix for ATLANTICS (but missing out on the Palme Do'r). Will true parity ever come to Cannes?
