Your family doctor makes $22 for your visit, and nothing for reviewing labs, letters etc. Some of these visits take 30min or more. No wonder public healthcare is so affordable for the Government, and there is a shortage of family doctors.
So many simple cold cases in ER these days. 811 needs to pay physicians including pediatricians to review cases and that would decrease the ER visits easily by 25%.
Now that naturopaths, Chiropractors call themselves doctors and diagnose medical conditions. We should use the term "physician" to distinguish ourselves.

This week I was a witness to the #HESA committee of Parliament.
I was asked- what do family doctors want?
It’s not complex- they want to care for patients.

Family Medicine in BC is going extinct anyways.
Msg from a friend.
Re #royalbcmuseum:
“I just heard one wing of the new Museum will be dedicated to Medicine, so we can all come in and see what @BCFamilyDoctors look like…”

People want GPs not NPs. The patients will suffer at a higher cost without GP based care. I'm all for team-based care. NPs can assist GPs in prescription refills, simple medical issues, medical forms...

So many GPS would prefer to move and live in BC, but cannot afford both a paycut and the higher living costs of BC. Make compensation equal to Alberta at least to even the playing field.

Lost count of how many probably they used in this.

Short sighted ideas. "Impressive evidence". Thinks highly of an unpublished and not yet peer reviewed anecdotal sounding evidence and wants to make policies based that evidence. Spoken like a NP.

The issue is that Family Doctors are not paid for their services. Theyre overworked and underpaid both at the same time. It's that simple.

The idea of UPCCs is not evidence-based, does not solve BC Family Doctor shortage caused by low fees/uncompensated work. In 4 yrs this Govt model is a proven failure at high cost to taxpayers, resulted in worsening FP crisis & healthcare collapsing, why is Dix still pushing UPCC?

A crisis indeed. 900,000 without a dr, 1000 more physicians needed now. Another 1200 physicians are retiring over next 10 yrs. Further, 1 in 3 health care workers and 35% nurses plan to quit in next 2 yrs. We desperately need leadership. @jht4x4 @ReneeMerrifiel3
Allow Family Doctors to get paid for the amount of time spent with the patient, rather than one visit one fixed fee renumeration. Learn from Alberta.

Subsidize rent for GP offices to attract more clinics opening and Doctors joining the clinics.
