I tried to write about a campaign, and my biggest insight was that campaigns have almost nothing to do with human existence.
Once you turn 40, everyone in your friend group starts telling you about their medical appointments. I’ve never heard of so many medical appointments in my life. It’s every day with this.

The first two words the NYT uses to describe John Anderson’s voice in their obituary of him today are “gravelly” and “warbled.” His voice was exactly the opposite of all that. He sang smoothly, fluidly, in the vein of Lefty Frizzell, his voice rising and falling like gently rolling hills. These people either don’t know what they’re talking about, or they can’t stand to listen to it.

Anyway. RIP John Anderson.

“Why do rural people not support data centers? Is it the vibes?”
Uhhh, no. It’s the requirements of specific projects and an overall lack of transparency in the development process.
It’s almost like rural people have had bad experiences with extractive industries.

“Unless you really see the kingdom of God and are willing to rethink everything in the light of Christ, politics trumps everything — including faith and ethics.” - @BrianZahnd
Contrary to popular belief, most things that happen in the U.S. happen outside of the paradigm of two-party politics. That’s why modern media makes the world feel so small — because the space it occupies is shrunken.

The purpose of social media is, of course, to performatively misunderstand things in an effort to construct a false reality in which you always have the moral high ground.

me and @FarahnMorgan were just talking yesterday on the phone about how Charles Portis is one of the finest and most influential American Novelists and I listed Masters of Atlantis as one of my favorites

I don’t know but these passages really stuck out to me when reading Masters of Atlantis several years ago.
There are lots of reasons to feel down, but there are lots of reasons to be optimistic too. Take me, for instance — all my friends are interesting, and my life is gorgeous.
