those 3d printed drill guides get chewed up around the holes so fast, i'd leave room for metal bushings

450 bucks is a pretty good incentive to learn how soffit panels fit together
Attention homeowners!! You do not have to pay somebody $450 to reinstall a peice of soffit. You can literally do it yourself in 5min. If it flew out once reinstall with fasteners and you won't have the same problem again. Left side is groove right side is tongue. If installed correctly you need zero fasteners.

custom jigs and brackets for every weird little job around the house. that's where 3d printing gets really useful to me
Every time I think 3D printing can’t get any cooler, they prove me wrong 🤯 What would you want them to print next? 👀

the amount of patience it takes to get every piece fitting right on something this small is unreal
Model Profile: J541 An in progress model by @dshaynie, being tested in PLA and will soon be made from brass! He has poured multiple months into this model, many scans of real Js and spent multiple hours trying to figure how the cab, boiler and frames all join🤣
i'd rather print a jig than mark out the same shelf pin holes by hand every time

From "I wish I had a Codex pet figurine" to this on my desk 💙 Asked Astra + Codex to model it in Blender. It handled the slicing+verification as well for my Bambu Lab P1S. Also an excuse to try "product photography" for the first time. Pretty excited how it all turned out!

that pendant over a handmade shou sugi ban table is gonna look incredible
So I’m loving my dining room pendant even though there’s nothing else in the room. I’m having a table made by this really creative woodworker I found. He invited me to work with him because we’re going to be using Shou Sugi Ban, a Japanese wood burning technique. I can’t wait

there's something deeply satisfying about watching a homemade mechanism finally cycle the way it's supposed to
OK! the first full test! Note how the previous cycle leaves the top gate partly jammed open, it will close as soon as the lower gate opens, this is why I use spring return! The volume looked high, but turns out to be just right! Issue with the cap not holding in the 3d print tho.

honestly the idea of going from a few lines of code to a real piece of wood is pretty great
Validating my workflow: 1. Designing the 3d in mnft (my own CAD harness) with Deepseek flash model. 2. Prepare the model for machining using FreeCAD CAM via MCP. 3. Send the g-code to CNC. 4. Now, I have a funky piece of wood 🤣 AI for manufacturing 🤖

71 dollars in import charges on a 74,000 yen package is gonna make people check dhl and fedex real quick
We're in the final stages of testing UPS with a handful of customers. Here's one example: a package picked up in Japan late Friday afternoon that's already scheduled to arrive in the US on Monday afternoon. For this particular shipment, the declared value was 74,000 JPY (including shipping), and the import duties and charges came to 71 USD. Is this more or less what you have been paying for DHL or FedEx to the US? For each test shipment, we're also closely monitoring the duties payment process, customer notifications, and final delivery to make sure everything runs smoothly from start to finish. Adding UPS alongside DHL and FedEx will give us more flexibility to offer competitive shipping rates and delivery times. It's not just about getting packages there faster or cheaper. We also want to make sure the entire experience is as smooth as possible for our customers. #smartdoll

i love explaining the prep time on a repair quote because that's when people start picturing what the work actually involves

lego-style accessories are such an obvious way to make a speaker more fun, someone print this already
always a classic - LEGO Brick Style plate for @cmfbynothing Speaker M (or S) anyone? Sadly no 3D printer to print it haha

scale is one of those things your brain stops being good at once you're zoomed in. having a familiar object there is genuinely useful
When working CAD we’re constantly viewing 1mm details in a big screen, and at least to me, I always get surprised by its real physical size (after 3d printing it). That’s why I added Reference feature, that lets you put your object into perspective with real-world objects. Scenes are customizable too!

people get weird about paying for estimates like measuring a crooked kitchen and pricing out materials takes ten minutes

finally got a light working down here and immediately found three more things to fix

3d printers turn every household annoyance into an excuse to learn cad
Got one of my coworkers into 3d printing and his first 3d printer gets delivered today!

some houses have a whole personality and people still look at them and think white paint will fix it
Early 90s house for sale. Owned by a lovely gentleman who lived there with his wife since they built it. New owners paint the roof, the gutter, the fascia, all the trim, the garage door, the garage door HANDLE, and all the bricks in WHITE. Interior stripped, also white, bathroom and kitchen once full of character replaced with austere, lifeless hotel styling. It's a corpse. Sucked of all life and positivity. The new owners bought it to flip it. It has not sold. No one wants the course of a once fine house. A crime against architecture and family.

the business model where the printer is cheap and the ink costs a fortune is still completely insane
It's some sick world we live in where my 2D printer is far more unreliable and expensive to run then my 3D printer.

why do people get mad about paid estimates when someone has to measure the room and price out every piece of material
