Today is the anniversary of Roe, which technically was overturned 3.5 years ago. So what this anniversary and Sanctity of Human Life month mean in 2026? My reflections today @mereorthodoxy with a lot of help from @FavaleAbs's beautiful new novel. mereorthodoxy.com/in-this-ho…

This is fantastic news! New Zealand was among the highest prescribers of puberty blockers per capita in the world.
BREAKING NEWS | New Zealand will ban new prescriptions of puberty blockers for gender-distressed young people. NZ Health Minister Simeon Brown cites a 2024 evidence brief showing the lack of high-quality evidence for this use of puberty suppression drugs. He says the NZ ban on new treatment under the Medicines Act will emulate the shift to caution in the UK, and remain in force until the end of the UK clinical trial of puberty blockers. Mr Brown also highlights the adoption of more cautious treatment policy on gender distress in Nordic countries such as Finland and Sweden since 2020. This essay by @FavaleAbs is a great read. I really appreciated her dive into studies on secondary sex differences, which show: 1. There are statistical differences in personality traits between the sexes. 2. The differences are small. 3. Almost all people have a mix of “male” and “female” personality traits. 4. The differences are most pronounced and bifurcated on the extreme ends of the spectrum, not between average men and women.
A deft intervention on complementarity by @FavaleAbs @ChurchLifeND . churchlifejournal.nd.edu/art… I'll be reading this with my teen, who was recently told some nonsense about how "if the wife wants to go apple picking Saturday but the husband wants to mow the lawn, the husband decides which they do" as an explanation of sex roles in marriage.

We made ChatGPT pretty restrictive to make sure we were being careful with mental health issues. We realize this made it less useful/enjoyable to many users who had no mental health problems, but given the seriousness of the issue we wanted to get this right. Now that we have been able to mitigate the serious mental health issues and have new tools, we are going to be able to safely relax the restrictions in most cases. In a few weeks, we plan to put out a new version of ChatGPT that allows people to have a personality that behaves more like what people liked about 4o (we hope it will be better!). If you want your ChatGPT to respond in a very human-like way, or use a ton of emoji, or act like a friend, ChatGPT should do it (but only if you want it, not because we are usage-maxxing). In December, as we roll out age-gating more fully and as part of our “treat adult users like adults” principle, we will allow even more, like erotica for verified adults.
