This research attracted a lot of interest at the 2024 @FestofNature . Visitors were fascinated by the sounds soil can make.
UWE Bristol Researchers are turning soil sounds into songs. Termed soil ‘eco-acoustics’, the novel field of listening to soil could tell researchers a wealth of information, including the soil’s geo-physical makeup and how biodiverse and healthy it is.

How can you connect with wildlife this winter? ❄️
1. Night sky watching & listening 🌠
Winter nights are a great time to look up and tune into the sounds and movements of wildlife. Listen out for the hoots of owls and swoops of bats!
More tips 👇
3. Leave those leaf piles 🍂
Resist tidying up those piles of leaves and twigs that have dropped, as they can provide shelter and hibernation spaces for insects, toads and hedgehogs.
