I’ve worked in commercial refrigeration for 20 years. Watching the freezer stories today and reading the comments has been interesting. A lot of people are suddenly experts on systems they’ve never touched. Commercial refrigeration has used remote monitoring and control for decades for a reason. It catches failures before product is lost and keeps the stores running. When someone overrides the controls and forces a defrost to stay on, temperatures climb fast. That’s not complicated. It’s just how the equipment works. The bigger issue is the same one I see on the job all the time. New tools get treated like they can replace the person who actually knows the system. They can’t. Used carefully they help. Rushed in or set up on the cheap, they create new problems or leave you exposed when something goes wrong. The tech is useful. The person who understands the equipment, the job, and what happens when it fails is still the part that matters. Cheap and fast usually costs more later.

October 1. The first no-heat call always feels early. It is not early. The homeowner waited until the house was cold. Your book is already full of installs. The tech who knows that unit is on another job, and last winter's notes are still in a text thread. That is October. The shops that get through it wrote the plan in September. The rest find out at 7am when the phone starts. Show up when you said you would. Bring the parts. Leave the place better than you found it.

Aged equipment is the quiet money. Green is 1–7 years. Yellow is 7–12. Red is 12+. Pull the red units by site, then quote the changeout before it dies on a Saturday. Want two weeks on the demo book? DM me.

Want two weeks on the demo book? DM me. I’ll send the login. Build a site, a unit, a work order, and a quote. See if the truck would actually use it.

Estimating is the same idea. Tech builds a quote off the work order, the site, or the unit. Office sees it in Estimating. Approve it or send it back. Rates come off that client’s card, not a guess from last winter.

How the office and the truck stay on the same page: Office builds the work order off the site and the unit. Tech opens that same work order, sees the photos, notes, filters, and last job. When they close it, the notes stay on the building. Next guy does not start from a text thread.
