WH Field Hockey

We're on the edge of our seats awaiting the MIAA's release of the field hockey brackets at 11 AM today. Our team appears to be right on the fence. Although the girls were in the top 32 of the last Power Rankings, the system is a bit quirky, so it's hard to know whether that will be enough to earn a spot. Our fingers are crossed for this wonderful team, which has truly defined what makes high school athletics so special. These girls stick together and are such great teammates, and I'm hopeful they'll get the chance to keep playing. I'll post an update here as soon as the brackets are released.

Hanover Health Express is offering free sports physicals through 9/15. Avoid the stress of waiting for an appointment elsewhere and take care of this before school. All physicals should be emailed to [email protected] and a picture of it kept on the students phone.

Our field hockey team finished 35th in the final power rankings, narrowly missing the tournament. Yet in the past three weeks, I’ve received emails from parents at three different schools, each praising our team’s spirit, effort, and sportsmanship. While the tournament may have eluded them, they captured something far more important—the true essence of high school athletics. We couldn’t be more proud of our players and coaches. miaa.net/sites/default/files…

A reminder if your child is playing a fall sport, you MUST fill out the user fee form online. The entire payment does not have to be made at this time (although that is preferred) but the form must be completed. Students will not be allowed to participate until the form is done - fs17.formsite.com/WHathletic…

It is confirmed - 7th seeded WH girls basketball will travel to Emmanuel College on Wednesday with a 6:30pm tap against 6th seeded South High (Worcester). We will have ticket information tomorrow. We are also trying to get a fan bus for students. We will have that info on Monday if we can make it happen. If there is any business owner who would like to make a donation to defray the cost of the bus and the tickets please email me at [email protected]

Junior guard Dylan Hurley and sophomore guard Maliah Pierre each had a team high 13 points as #7 seeded Whitman Hanson upset #2 seeded Dartmouth to go to the Final Four for the second time in 3 years. Senior Center Keryn Stone was solid again off of the bench scoring 9 points and owning the glass. It was a total team effort defensively guarding Dartmouth’s outstanding senior guard Katherine Cheeseboro who poured in a game high 25 points. The team is awaiting their Final Four opponent either #14 Walpole or #6 South High.

WH girls advance to the second round with a hard fought win over an outstanding Middleboro squad. Full recap to follow - 68-52
